Department OverviewMotorola Solutions creates a suite of community-facing public safety and enterprise applications, ranging from personal safety apps, crisis communication software, incident management, and emergency notification platforms. Our services provide customers such as schools, hospitals, corporates, police forces and even state-wide deployments with a wide array of tools to help keep their people safe and informed.
Job Description
Motorola Solutions is seeking a skilled and experienced hands-on Engineering Manager to join our team. This is a hands-on position; whilst management is the primary responsibility of this position, the successful applicant will need to lead by example and contribute to development. This is a hybrid position; the team typically goes into the Toronto downtown office once per week.
Engineering Management:
-
Manage and deliver on the tactical roadmaps for their engineering teams.
-
Manage the welfare and motivation of their engineering teams.
-
Monitor and maintain the skills and knowledge of their engineering teams.
-
Be the hiring manager for their engineering teams.
Contribute to Full Stack Development:
-
Develop web user interfaces using Angular.
-
Design and implement backend services using Node.js in TypeScript.
-
Develop hybrid cross-platform mobile apps for iOS and Android.
-
Develop secure and scalable cloud-based solutions on AWS to meet evolving customer needs.
-
Utilize natural language processing and data mining techniques to enhance application usability.
Additional Responsibilities:

Collaborate with the design team on intuitive and visually appealing user experiences.

Create and maintain internal tools to streamline operations.
-
Write clear and concise software documentation.
-
Troubleshoot and resolve escalated customer issues.
-
Participate in production rollout processes.
-
Research and implement new technologies to improve business processes and user experience.
Required Skills & Experience:
-
3+ years of experience in engineering management.
-
5+ years of experience in full-stack development.
-
Backend: Node.js with TypeScript
-
Frontend: Angular with TypeScript
-
Experience with Capacitor or Cordova for hybrid app development
-
Cloud & Infrastructure: AWS Lambda, DynamoDB, OpenSearch, SQS, and S3
-
Experience with unit testing on both backend and frontend
-
Version Control: Git
-
Agile Development: Scrum/Agile methodology.

Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
-
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Bonus Points:

Experience with automated testing using Playwright
-
Familiarity with publishing and distributing iOS and Android apps
-
Experience with Electron for building desktop applications
-
Familiarity with the Atlassian suite: Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket
