Purpose of Position:

The purpose of the Engineering Manager role is to build and lead a high-performing engineering team that delivers valuable, technically sound solutions for Hexagon Mining customers. The Engineering Manager role serves as the Directly Responsible Individual (DRI), or as a delegated leader reporting to a DRI, for a defined product, platform, or technology area, with accountability for its long-term health and evolution. The role combines formal people management with technical leadership, including performance management, coaching, talent development, recruitment, succession planning, engineering governance, and team culture.

Major Areas of Responsibility:
  • The Engineering Manager is sufficiently familiar with the product, codebase, architecture, quality concerns, delivery constraints, and customer problems to guide technical direction, support design decisions, validate estimates, mentor contributors, and help the team deliver technically sound outcomes.

    The role collaborates with Product Management and other functions to understand customer and business problems, and deliver solutions that are valuable, usable, technically sound, maintainable, and supportable.

    The Engineering Manager has direct accountability for outcomes including:

    • The successful delivery of agreed project outcomes, including scope, schedule, and quality
    • The technical health, quality, governance, documentation, and development practices of the team's product, platform, or technology area
    • The health, growth, and performance of the team and its individual contributors
  • The Engineering Manager also contributes to:

    • Strong working relationships between Engineering, Product Management, Operations, Sales, and other functions
    • A healthy engineering culture across teams and geographies
    • The evolution of the Hexagon Mining technology platform
    • Customer outcomes and the commercial success of the products and solutions the team supports
Knowledge and Experience - Required:
  • Strong written and oral English communication skills
  • Engineering leadership experience, such as people leadership, technical leadership, project leadership, or a combination of these
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, preferably with complex, long-lived, customer-facing products
  • Strong technical knowledge of modern software engineering practices, architecture, design, testing, DevOps, and delivery processes
Knowledge and Experience - Desired:
  • Experience working with hybrid software-hardware systems, e.g. robotics, automotive, industrial automation, etc.
  • Experience working with complex products, legacy systems, hardware and software integration, and/or large-scale technical debt reduction
  • Specialized technical knowledge in a relevant domain, e.g robotics, automotive, GNSS, optimization;, data science, or similar domains
  • Familiarity with engineering delivery, quality, and organizational health metrics
  • Experience leading organizational change and scaling engineering teams

Skills Required

  • Strong written and oral English communication skills
