Engineering Manager - Partner Tech

Partner Tech is one of the core organisations within Zalando. We are responsible for sourcing fashion products and consumer goods into Zalando. Through our platform and tools, we provide a wide range of products to customers all over Europe. The organization is composed of more than 300 talented individuals who are dedicated to creating the best platform and inspiring opportunities for multi million euro fashion brands and physical retail stores, connecting them with consumers across multiple European markets.
 

As an Engineering Manager for one of our offers and fulfilment teams, you will join our team in Helsinki. Together with the team, you are responsible for operational excellence and extension of the systems enabling partners to steer their business. Together with Partner Offer and Fulfilment Leadership you will work on the future strategy and vision for our partner platform.

WHERE YOUR EXPERTISE IS NEEDED

• Develop and execute mid- & long-term architectural vision and technical direction to create highly available and scalable solutions supporting the team and Zalando level objectives.

• Set a high bar of engineering and operational excellence in terms of scalability, latency, observability and uptime. 

• Lead a tech team of 6-8 consisting of software engineers, facilitate collaboration, communication and decision-making between the engineering team, product specialists and stakeholders. You partner with product managers, designers, engineering and architecture teams to influence product strategy and drive the product development roadmap

• Create and drive a culture of innovation that welcomes new ideas and experimentation from anyone in your team. You help your team to understand customer problems and guide people on how to navigate a time-boxed experiment with a fail fast mindset.

• Attract, onboard, develop and retain diverse top talents to your team and transform the landscape of Zalando’s B2C eCommerce platforms.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

• A solid background in software engineering and system design that is based on event-driven, microservices architecture on top of Kubernetes and AWS.

• Extensive experience in object-oriented and/or functional programming languages with a profound knowledge of REST APIs and highly distributed, scalable and resilient microservice environment.

• A track record demonstrating your experience leading and developing cross-functional engineering teams within an international, agile environment.

• Always optimizing for creating maximum business value - you are capable of making your teams accountable and responsible for the decisions made by providing a strong sense of ownership and a data-driven mindset with a strong understanding of core priorities and KPI’s. 

• You have effective communication skills in English, with an ability to understand and translate business and user requirements across teams.

• You think creatively, are solution oriented, adaptable to change, and have a drive for continuous innovation.

• Responsible for maintaining trustful relationship with your team, leading them and setting a high standard as an example.
