Woven by Toyota is enabling Toyota’s once-in-a-century transformation into a mobility company. Inspired by a legacy of innovating for the benefit of others, our mission is to challenge the current state of mobility through human-centric innovation — expanding what “mobility” means and how it serves society.

Our work centers on four pillars: AD/ADAS, our autonomous driving and advanced driver assist technologies; Arene, our software development platform for software-defined vehicles; Woven City, a test course for mobility; and Cloud & AI, the digital infrastructure powering our collaborative foundation. Business-critical functions empower these teams to execute, and together, we’re working toward one bold goal: a world with zero accidents and enhanced well-being for all.

TEAM
Woven by Toyota’s AD/ADAS organization is developing the core algorithms for safe and robust driving of complex and uncertain real-world environments. Our teams are contributing to next-generation autonomy and ADAS active safety systems through core algorithms, data-driven approaches, and efficient architectures.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for an experienced hands-on manager with experience in AD/ADAS to lead a team of engineers to develop a state-of-the-art motion planner for autonomous driving. You will also contribute to the design and deployment of our hybrid planner by leveraging the strength of data-driven and rule-based approaches to improve our next-generation autonomous vehicles. The ideal candidate will have domain expertise in motion planning, be familiar with machine learning solutions, have built and deployed real-world autonomous driving products, and have worked in a fast-paced environment along with other highly talented engineers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead a lean team of engineers in the Planner Feature Integration and Core Development team, leveraging both technical expertise and leadership skills to drive high-impact results.
  • Define the team's short-term and long-term technical direction while collaborating on broader, cross-functional strategic initiatives.
  • Provide ongoing professional development of team members.
  • Collaborate with team members to design, develop, deploy, and evaluate state-of-the-art algorithms and capabilities for vehicle motion planning.
  • Collaborate with team members to integrate the machine learning model in the motion planning stack.
  • Use metrics to measure, validate, improve performance through testing in simulation and on roads.
  • Design reusable software components as part of an integrated system.
  • Understand and fulfill the software practices that produce maintainable code, including simulation, continuous integration, code review, HIL testing, and in-vehicle testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • M.S., Ph.D., or equivalent, in Robotics, Control, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or other quantitative fields.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in the automotive industry, in the development of motion planning algorithms, e.g. trajectory optimization, sampling-based planning, model predictive control, and machine learning.
  • 1+ years of experience in managing engineering teams, with a focus on technical leadership, team development, and delivering high-impact projects in the automotive industry.
  • Hands-on experience with architecture design and building a planning stack for autonomous robots.
  • Strong programming skills in C++.
  • An excellent communicator, skilled collaborator, and principled colleague.
  • Strong R&D potential in algorithm design, data-driven approaches to safety, and large-scale systems architecture.
  • A strong, practical understanding of real-time system development, performance issues, testing modalities, and tradeoffs.

NICE TO HAVE

  • Experience in Python or other programming languages.
  • Experience with code compliance and embedded systems.
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop design.
  • Experience in writing production-level code in a real-time operating system.
