About the role

In the role of Engineering Manager, you will report to the Director of Video Players.

As the Engineering Manager for the Mobile Video Players team, you will lead the client-side development of the video playback experience for our streaming application across our mobile client platforms. In addition to leading the development of the mobile playback experience, you will oversee the design, development, and optimization of our next-generation video player library. You will lead and grow a team of skilled engineers while advocating for our core values of operational excellence, engineering quality, and effective delivery. You will establish relationships across Engineering, Program Management, and Product to drive projects and to help deliver our technology roadmap. You will join an international team of 100+ client engineers and leaders that have helped establish Crunchyroll as the leader in its space.

Core Areas of Responsibility

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers specializing in video player development. 
  • Foster a culture within the team that aligns with our core values.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with a focus on performance and career development. 
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and delivery of projects that address complex challenges in the video player domain. 
  • Ensure best practices in software development, including coding standards, peer code reviews, and documentation
  • Drive continuous improvement in video player performance and reliability.
  • Work closely with product managers, designers, and other cross-functional  stakeholders to define requirements and set priorities.
  • Communicate project status, challenges, and outcomes to senior management and other teams.
  • Establish a culture with regard to our core tenets of excellence in operations, engineering, and delivery.
  • Participate in the hiring and interviewing process and act as a spokesperson for the Crunchyroll engineering team.
  • Keep up to date on industry trends by researching and benchmarking new technologies against other solutions in the market.

Employees engage in a combination of remote and on-site work.

Two in-person days per week. Tuesdays and Thursdays are the company-wide days for ALL team members to be in the office, and individuals may choose to come in more if the please.
