Torc's Autonomy Applications software utilizes cutting-edge deep learning techniques to perceive the vehicle's environment, predict the movements of other vehicles, and execute accurate driving decisions. We are actively seeking a highly experienced engineering manager to lead our learned behaviors team. This is an exceptional opportunity for you to have a significant impact on the future of the autonomous vehicle industry by leveraging AI. 

The Autonomy Applications division is hiring an Engineering Manager, ML Learned Behaviors who leads the Prediction and Planning Team. 

As the leader of the team, you are responsible for providing an environment in which your team can deliver results, stay focused on cutting edge technology and grow both as individuals and as a team. You are embedded in a department with multiple machine learning teams, each focusing on different tasks along our robotics autonomous driving stack. You are taking over the people leadership tasks, as well as the project management tasks. You are representing your team outside of your group and make sure that your team delivers the behavior models that steer our truck! Operating at the intersection of engineering and project management exposes you to every detail that your team works on the one hand, and to the broader mission of our division, providing all components for our autonomous truck, on the other hand. 

What you'll do: 

  • Taking the charge on the delivery of learned behavior algorithms. 
  • Collaborates with other management and teams as needed to meet goals, monitor team performance, and achieve objectives. 
  • Responsible for understanding the software or system technical domain of their assigned team. 
  • Accountable and responsible for career development and coaching of the team. 
  • Accountable and responsible for performance management of their team. 
  • Accountable and responsible for ensuring continuous performance feedback is delivered and compensation analysis in close collaboration with peer managers and People Operations. 
  • Responsive to others and able to effectively collaborate to meet established standards, compliance requirements, implementation, and service delivery schedules. 
  • Demonstrated functional knowledge of business area and demonstrates results of ongoing learning and professional development. Ability to effectively manage people and identify opportunities to develop staff experience and expertise. 
  • Scope of Influence: Focused within the team with focus on impacts to customer, technology quality and system cost. 

What you’ll need to Succeed: 

  • Master's degree in computer science, data science, artificial intelligence or related field with 6+ years of professional experience or a PhD degree with 4+ years of experience 
  • Scientific understanding of robotics learned behaviors 
  • Experience with learning from or validating in simulated environments 
  • Mastery of Python and Pytorch, with the ability to transition research level code to production and deployment ready standards 
  • Project Management experience in autonomous driving projects 
  • 2+ years of people leadership experience

Bonus points! 

  • Experience with relevant NVIDIA libraries and frameworks, such as CUBLAS, CuDNN, and NPP 
  • Experience with Ray
