The team

Stripe’s Crypto team is trusted with imagining and building the future of financial infrastructure by leveraging the crypto ecosystem. Our products include the “crypto onramp”, which is Stripe’s embeddable product that allows web3 merchants to make it easy for their customers to purchase crypto with fiat currency, “crypto payouts”, which provides seamless global stablecoin payouts for platforms, and our new “pay with crypto” functionality, which lets global consumers pay for transactions with stablecoins that are instantly settled in fiat for merchants. The next few years are especially critical as the team works to leverage the power of stablecoin infrastructure to enable a new generation of global commerce and money movement.

The role

As the head of crypto engineering you will be responsible for leading the architecture, implementation, and execution of the crypto engineering team while partnering closely with product leadership and xfn partners on the strategy for the entire crypto organization. This role is a manager of managers and you’ll work to directly empower the engineering team to deliver outstanding results and to bring forth positive influence across the wider Stripe organization relating to crypto team efforts and aspirations. This is a strategic, high-impact position that will play a critical part in driving the team’s success in a fast moving high autonomy team. The ideal candidate will be an innovative technology leader with a passion for creatively solving complex issues in a changing macro environment.

Responsibilities:

• Thoughtfully organize and oversee the engineering teams working across our suite of crypto products.
• Create positive forward progress throughout the team by establishing best practices, shepherding open communication, and setting clear goals.
• Be the trusted technical leader, directly influencing high quality and reliable architectural, operational, and structural technical success.
• Partner closely with product and executive leadership on the crypto roadmap, contributing across both practical and aspirational opportunities.
• Collaborate cross functionally with legal, compliance, sales, design, data science, customer ops, and others to deliver the highest quality crypto product and infrastructure experience for our users.
• Be a calm beacon of experience and guide the team through complex situations that scope beyond technical challenges.

Who you are

Minimum requirements

• Minimum of 15 years of industry experience, including at least 5 years in an engineering manager role with a minimum of 3 years managing managers
• A proven track record of managing high autonomy, fast moving teams
• Proven ability to translate business requirements into robust, scalable technology solutions
• Strong project management and change management skills
• Excellent cross-functional collaboration and communication abilities
• Hands-on experience with data analytics, reporting, and business intelligence tools
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or equivalent technical experience in a related field

Preferred qualifications

• Experience shipping and scaling both consumer and business-facing products
• An interest and understanding of crypto products, their users, and their communities
• Actively involved in the developer community and you’ve formed a tasteful opinion of developer experiences
• You are willing to dive into the details and maintain a high standard for operational rigor, ensuring that you only release functionality after thoroughly test-driving it and extensively revising the documentation.
