About the role and team
Uber is looking for an expert Engineering Manager to lead a team within our Container Platform Infrastructure group. As a manager within Infrastructure, you will have a significant impact on the evolution of backend teams and architecture at Uber. Our mission is to make transportation as reliable as possible, and we are looking for a passionate manager to build a dependable foundation that supports that vision.
The Container Platform team’s vision is to build the next generation of Uber’s container orchestration platform that is secure, reliable, scalable, and highly efficient. At Uber we have a complex infrastructure spanning both data centers and cloud, supporting a diverse variety of workloads (stateless, batch, stateful) each different in its characteristics and requirements.
Basic Qualifications
- 10+ years of significant experience building scalable, fault-tolerant, and robust products and platforms. Including 5+ years in managing engineering teams of 10+ people
- Ability to lead teams in Amsterdam and collaborate with stakeholder and sister teams in the US
- Ability to attract talent in Amsterdam by setting the standard for excellence
- Good judgment about shipping as fast as possible while still making sure that products are built in a sustainable, responsible way - and you’re comfortable making mistakes, provided you and your team learn from them
- Technical strength and deep knowledge of the whole stack to give phenomenal architecture and implementation mentorship to the teams who will count on your experience
- Ability to set the team up for success through mentoring, teaching, and reviewing
- Dedication towards keeping the Uber experience consistent for users and striving to make any issues invisible to riders
- Ability to jump in and take ownership of problems that may not even be in your team’s scope
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in Operating Systems, Linux, Virtual Machines, Container (Docker/containerd), Cluster Management (Kubernetes, Mesos) technologies
