Position Summary:

Encon's Engineering & Product Manager is a staff management position as well as a hands-on performer of various engineering duties. The role is responsible for planning and managing projects performed by engineers and CAD designers completing the mechanical, electrical and pneumatic product designs and/or developing sample product to meet pre-qualified specifications as provided by Encon management. The Engineering Manager uses technical descriptions, sketches and verbal direction to lead the development, design or drafting of actual or conceptual product. They use education and knowledge of material qualities and properties, material standards, industrial processes and manufacturing procedures to complete these efforts.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct management of the engineering/designer team in the Encon Engineering Department.
  • Supervises maintenance of the master written specification file (Product Life cycle Management - PLM) within Encon Safety Products for all emergency shower and eyewash components and assemblies.
  • Provides a review of engineering work provided by others to determine correct component orientation and material lists for incorporation into Encon produced product.
  • Analyzes plans and diagrams provided by (internal for external) customers to determine compatibility of Encon designs or specifications. Inputs to internal customers to provide comment for manufacturing or construction activities to include or meet Encon Safety Products design parameters.
  • Works closely with Product Management, Customer Service and Engineering Department members to translate product and customer requirements into technical specifications and conceptual designs.
  • Works as part of the New Product Development Team to ensure that products are designed for reliability, ease of manufacturability and are of superior quality.
  • Develops a team with appropriate members to have technical documents, manuals, bulletins, brochures, publications, training manuals and special reports created and accessible to company members.
  • Researches product design, capabilities, compatibility ranges, industry standards, governmental regulations, certifications and certifying bodies ensuring that specified products are designed, produced and tested to appropriate standards, and that they meet target market and customer expectations. 
  • Participates in meetings as required with various managers and vendors to ensure that specifications are clearly defined and understood before commencement of production runs of new products.
  • Supports the need for, and completion of, 3rd party product and process testing and approval.
  • Performs other duties as deemed necessary or as required and assigned by the GM.
Preferred Qualifications

Job Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Engineering with 5+ years of experience; mechanical engineering discipline preferred with a strong electrical background, or vice versa, but not limited to either of these disciplines with applicable engineering experience. Other relevant experience should include:

  • Experience with the design and manufacture of fluid pump systems.
  • Manufacturing or assembly facility background essential.
  • Knowledge of ASME, ANSI, ISO and CSA standards;
  • Industrial electrical design experience with knowledge of NEC, CEC and European electrical standards;
  • PLM systems knowledge and experience to introduce and manage CAD/CAM: Auto Cad, Autodesk Vault family of products and/or Pro-Engineer (Parametric) experience;
  • Knowledge of fluid dynamics to include skidded pump packages;
  • Excellent interpersonal - verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to participate as a team leader to the Engineering Group and a team member with the company Leadership Team.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with design and manufacture of fluid pump systems
  • Knowledge of ASME, ANSI, ISO and CSA standards
  • Industrial electrical design experience
  • PLM systems knowledge and experience
  • Knowledge of fluid dynamics
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
