As an Engineering Manager, DevOps, you will play a crucial role in leading and mentoring a team of DevOps engineers while also providing technical guidance to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality cloud infrastructure and DevOps solutions. You will be responsible for:

Strong Technical Focus and Leadership: Dive into challenging technical issues related to AWS infrastructure, guide the team to tackle ambitious problems, and ensure our efforts deliver high-value impact.

Service Ownership and DevOps Best Practices: Take charge of maintaining and operating our team's AWS services, implementing DevOps best practices to foster the production of high-quality, well-architected, and sustainable infrastructure as code.

Team Development:

o Provide coaching and mentorship to junior DevOps engineers and offer guidance to senior contributors, maximizing their potential.

o Conduct regular performance reviews to assess and support engineers' growth and development.

o Manage career development plans, ensuring alignment with individual and company goals.

Commercial Insight and Stakeholder Communication: Utilize your interpersonal skills and commercial acumen to ensure team members understand the impact of their work on infrastructure and product delivery. Also, provide estimates for delivery to stakeholders.

Vision Alignment and Strategic Clarity: Clarify the team's vision, mission, and strategy for AWS and DevOps practices, ensuring alignment with company objectives to avoid wasted efforts.

Collaboration with Product Owner and Development Teams: Collaborate closely with the Product Owner and development teams to comprehend and contribute to the product roadmap, ensuring seamless integration of DevOps practices.

Agile Methodologies and Continuous Delivery: Employ Agile methodologies with the assistance of the Scrum Master to continuously deliver value to customers through efficient DevOps processes.

Cultivate a Culture of Continuous Improvement: Foster a culture of continuous improvement through retrospection, encouraging the team to reflect on past experiences and strive for ongoing enhancement of DevOps practices.

Project Management:

o Develop detailed project plans outlining key milestones, deliverables, timelines, and resource allocation for DevOps initiatives.

o Ensure transparency by providing detailed reports on initiative status, including metrics, timelines, and any deviations from the plan.

Strategic Input: Provide feedback and input to the Director of CloudOps to align DevOps initiatives with overall company strategy and vision.

· Strong knowledge of DevOps practices and cloud infrastructure, particularly in AWS.

· Proficiency in technical problem-solving and project management within a DevOps context.

· Deep understanding of infrastructure as code, system performance, and cloud cost optimization.

· Ability to solve complex technical problems related to AWS services and DevOps practices.

· Experience in balancing feature development with technical debt reduction in cloud environments.

· Proven track record in managing DevOps projects with high complexity.

· Collaborative skills to work effectively with other engineering teams and stakeholders.

· Mentor junior DevOps engineers and provide technical guidance on AWS best practices.

· Excellent communication skills within the team and with other departments.

· Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

 

Technical Requirements:

AWS Expertise: Minimum of 8+ years of hands-on experience with AWS services, including:

o Containers (Docker, AWS ECS)

o AWS Fargate

o Serverless computing (AWS Lambda, API Gateway)

o Cloud cost management and optimization

o Kubernetes (preferably Amazon EKS)

Networking: Strong understanding of AWS networking concepts (VPC, subnets, security groups, etc.)

Linux-Based Systems: Extensive experience (minimum 8+ years) with Linux-based operating systems, including:

o Proficiency in shell scripting (Bash, Zsh)

o System administration and performance tuning

o Security hardening and patch management

o Troubleshooting and debugging in Linux environments

Infrastructure as Code: Proficiency in tools like Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or AWS CDK.

Network Security: Strong background in network security, including:

o VPN configuration and management (e.g., OpenVPN, AWS VPN)

o Firewall setup and rule management (e.g., iptables, AWS Security Groups, Network ACLs)

o Implementing and maintaining secure network architectures

o Experience with intrusion detection and prevention systems

CI/CD Expertise: Strong understanding and implementation experience with CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, BuildKite or AWS CodePipeline.

Scripting and Automation: Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation tasks.

Monitoring and Logging: Experience with AWS CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, or similar tools.

Security and Compliance:

o In-depth knowledge of AWS security best practices and IAM

o Experience with compliance frameworks (e.g., SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI DSS)

o Implementing and maintaining security policies and procedures

Database Management: Familiarity with managing databases in AWS (RDS, DynamoDB, etc.)

 

Nice to have:

Advanced Python programming skills for developing custom tools and automation scripts.

Experience with multi-cloud environments and cloud migration strategies.

Experience with WebRTC technologies and their deployment in cloud environments.

Familiarity with cloud-native observability tools such as Jaeger or OpenTelemetry.
