And we want our people to get more out of life too! If you’re high-performing, ambitious and make the most of every opportunity, we want to hear from you. If you love making a difference, you’ll love making it sparkle for millions of Very customers. ✨

About the Team

DCX is where some of our most exciting customer challenges are solved.

You'll have the opportunity to influence products that are seen and used by millions, work alongside talented product and technology professionals, and help shape the future of digital retail at Very.

This is a role with real ownership, genuine impact and plenty of room to grow. You'll be trusted to lead, encouraged to innovate and supported to develop your career in whichever direction you want it to go.

Whether your ambition is to grow into senior technology leadership, deepen your technical influence or help shape the next generation of engineering talent, you'll find the support and opportunity to do it here.

If you're looking for an Engineering Manager role where you can combine people leadership, technical influence and meaningful customer impact, we'd love to hear from you.

About The Role

At Very, Engineering Managers play a critical role in both technology leadership and people leadership.

You'll be responsible for helping your squad deliver high-quality products and services while creating an environment where engineers can thrive. Working alongside Product Managers, Architects, Delivery Managers and fellow Engineering Managers, you'll help turn ambitious ideas into customer experiences that genuinely make a difference.

This isn't a role where you'll spend your time removed from the action. You'll stay close to technical decisions, support engineering excellence and help guide the future direction of your team's products and platforms.

You'll be leading teams that build and evolve customer-facing products using modern technologies including TypeScript, React, Nest.js and AWS, working at a scale where engineering decisions have a direct impact on millions of customer interactions every year.

What makes this opportunity particularly exciting is the scale and visibility of the work. The products you help build will be used by millions of customers, and your influence will extend beyond your own squad as you contribute to the wider engineering community across Very.

You'll help drive customer and business outcomes by:

  • Leading and developing a team of engineers, creating an environment where people can do their best work and grow their careers
  • Helping shape and deliver the technology roadmap that supports some of Very's most important customer experiences
  • Creating a culture of engineering excellence focused on quality, security, reliability and continuous improvement
  • Working closely with Product, Delivery and Architecture colleagues to solve complex customer and business challenges
  • Balancing innovation, technical debt and platform sustainability to ensure long-term success
  • Supporting engineers through coaching, mentoring and meaningful development conversations
  • Driving modern engineering practices, automation and continuous delivery approaches that help teams move faster with confidence
  • Championing collaboration, knowledge sharing and technical best practice across the wider technology organisation
  • Helping teams build resilient, scalable and observable services that delight customers and stand the test of time
  • Contributing to the future growth of engineering capability within Very

About You

You'll be a people-first engineering leader who enjoys helping teams achieve more together than they could individually.

You may already be operating as an Engineering Manager, or perhaps you're a Lead Engineer with strong coaching and leadership experience looking to take the next step.

You'll likely bring:

  • Experience leading engineering teams in a modern Agile environment
  • A strong software engineering background and the credibility to guide technical discussions when needed
  • A passion for developing engineers and building high-performing, inclusive teams
  • Experience delivering customer-facing digital products and services
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to build trusted relationships across Product, Delivery and Technology
  • A balanced approach to technology decisions, understanding both engineering excellence and commercial priorities
  • A growth mindset and a genuine desire to continuously improve people, processes and technology

You'll probably have worked with modern web technologies such as TypeScript, React, Node.js or Nest.js, alongside cloud platforms like AWS. Experience driving engineering best practice around CI/CD, observability, APIs and platform reliability would also be valuable.

Most importantly, you'll be passionate about creating an environment where engineers can thrive while delivering exceptional experiences for customers.
