ABOUT THE TEAM

The Data Platform team in Data Engineering Group designs and maintains the Data platform for the ingestion and collection of data so they can be studied and processed by data practitioners such as data modelers and analysts. The team is responsible for providing highly available data infrastructure so the data is reliable and delivered on time. 

As an Engineering manager on the Data Platform team, you will lead the team in building and maintaining a robust data platform. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of data architecture, strong leadership skills, and a passion for driving innovation in data management. You will be responsible for crafting the technical roadmap, guiding the team in its execution, fostering career development opportunities for team members, overseeing the maintenance and ingestion of data from various sources, and working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Technical Roadmap Development: Develop and maintain a technical roadmap for the data platform, aligning with the organization's goal and future needs. Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and trends to ensure the platform remains cutting edge and scalable
  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of experienced data engineers, providing guidance, support and technical expertise. Foster a collaborative and high performing team culture that encourages innovation, knowledge sharing and professional growth.
  • Project Management: Oversee the execution of projects related to data platform development, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality standards. Work closely with data architects, product managers and cross-functional teams to prioritize initiatives and turn requirements into executable tasks.
  • Technical Expertise: Maintain a deep understanding of data engineering principles, best practices, and emerging technologies. Partner with team architecture to provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members, helping them solve complex data problems and develop innovative solutions.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate closely with stakeholders (e.g. product engineering, GTM, business analytics) to understand their data needs and requirements. Ensure alignment and effective communication.
  • Career Development: Develop and implement career development plans for team members, identifying opportunities for skill enhancement and advancement. Provide regular feedback, coaching and support to help individuals reach their full potential within the organization

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
  • Proven experience in data engineering, with a strong understanding of data infrastructure, data architecture and ETL processes.
  • Prior experience in a data technical leadership or management role, with a track record of successfully leading and developing high-performing teams.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Scala, SQL, as well as experience with data engineering technologies (e.g. Hadoop, Spark, Kafka)  
  • Experience with cloud platforms AWS and Azure, and their data storage services.
  • Familiarity with data engineering tools and platforms such as Databricks, Astronomer, Fivetran, Segment.
  • Excellent Communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with a keen attention to details and a focus on delivering high-quality data solutions.

For roles based in New York City, California, Colorado, and Washington, the base salary for this role ranges from $187,200 - $234,000 + equity + benefits. Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Certain roles may be eligible for variable compensation.
