We are establishing a dedicated India-based engineering team to build and operate an end-to-end Email-as-a-Service (EaaS) platform for our product. This platform will handle automated delivery of alerts, reports, and system notifications at scale. As Engineering Manager, you will simultaneously shape the technical architecture and grow the team, reporting directly to senior product and engineering leadership.
This is a dual-track role: you are expected to be deeply technical while also being an effective people manager and cross-functional collaborator. You will own both the quality of the technical output and the health of the team delivering it.
What You Will Own- Technical Architecture
- Define and evolve the architecture for the email delivery platform, covering IaC design, service topology, reliability patterns, and scalability strategy.
- Set engineering standards for Terraform/OpenTofu module design, OpenStack/Rancher deployments, and Kubernetes-based workloads.
- Drive technology decisions around deliverability, observability, and infrastructure automation with documented ADRs.
- Lead hands-on technical contributions including code and IaC reviews, design reviews, and incident resolution.
- Team Leadership
- Hire, onboard, and develop a high-performing senior engineering team based in India.
- Run sprint planning, retrospectives, and 1:1s. Foster a culture of ownership, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Identify skill gaps and create structured growth plans for team members.
- Act as the primary escalation point for technical and delivery issues within the team.
- Delivery and Stakeholder Management
- Translate product requirements into a clear technical roadmap with milestones and risk assessment.
- Communicate progress, blockers, and trade-offs clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Coordinate with product managers, backend engineers, and security teams to align on requirements and dependencies.
What We Are Looking For
- 8+ years of engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a tech lead or engineering management role.
- Proven hands-on expertise in infrastructure-as-code using Terraform or OpenTofu in production at scale.
- Strong command of OpenStack and/or Rancher environments, with experience deploying and operating Kubernetes workloads.
- Demonstrated experience designing and operating distributed backend services, preferably including messaging or notification systems.
- A track record of hiring and developing senior engineers, including conducting structured interviews and building team culture.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to produce clear technical proposals and present to leadership.
- Comfort with ambiguity: this is a greenfield platform and you will define much of the process alongside the product.
Nice to Have
- Prior experience building an email delivery, notification, or messaging platform from the ground up.
- Familiarity with email deliverability tooling, ISP feedback loops, and large-scale SMTP infrastructure.
- Experience establishing engineering teams in India for globally distributed organizations.
- Open-source contributions or prior technical writing/blogging that demonstrates depth of knowledge.
