About the team
Roku runs one of the largest data lakes in the world. We store over 70 PB of data, run 10+M queries per month, scan over 100 PB of data per month. Big Data team is the one responsible for building, running, and supporting the platform that makes this possible. We provide all the tooling needed to acquire, generate, process, monitor, validate and access the data in the lake for both streaming data and batch. We are also responsible for generating the foundational data. The systems we provide include Scribe, Kafka, Hive, Presto, Spark, Flink, Pinot, and others. The team is actively involved in the Open Source, and we are planning to increase our engagement over time.
About the role
Roku is in the process of modernizing its Big Data Platform. We are working on defining the new architecture to improve user experience, minimize the cost and increase efficiency. We are also working or building a strong technical team in Bangalore, India. Are you interested in helping us build this state-of-the-art data platform? Do you have experience building and leading Big Data teams? Do you have a proven record of designing, developing, and testing complex distributed systems? Are you active or interested in the Open Source? If you answered “Yes” to these questions, this role is for you!
What you will be doing
- Jointly with the team in US, you will be responsible for building and onboarding a strong 8-10 people Big Data platform team in Bangalore.
- Jointly with the team in US, you will be responsible for the overall team roadmap, quarterly planning, and project deliverables.
- You will be responsible for day-to-day operations of the team including hands on technical leadership, project planning, and team mentorship.
We are excited if you have
- 10+ years of relevant experience in the Big Data space; 5+ years in a management role.
- Proven record of building, evolving and mentoring teams.
- Strong experience working in an agile environment
- Extensive experience in Big Data space preferably with Spark, Presto/Trino, Iceberg, Hive/HMS.
- Strong experience in designing, leading highly complex distributed systems
- Strong expertise with cloud solutions/systems, specifically AWS and GCP
- Strong passion for technology and adding value to the bottom-line through technology.
- Track record of collaborating across multiple teams, driving cross functional initiatives, working closely with Product and Business functions.
- Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal
- BS/MS degree in CS or equivalent
