We’re looking for a talented Engineering Lead to join our mission and help us build a global platform that’s scalable, reliable and secure. We’re working on lots of exciting challenges, and you’ll dive right into projects helping consumers and businesses receive and send money from anywhere in the world.
The team you’ll be leading is a Screening Handling team
Our screening group is building solutions to prevent usage of Wise services by sanctioned individuals and organisations. Additionally, it ensures that risks associated with politically exposed customers are well mitigated. We are building a high throughput screening engine, to check transaction information against a list of millions of sanctioned or politically exposed individuals and organisations. We own, improve and maintain name matching and text normalisation algorithms, to reduce the number of false positive alerts.
The Screening Handling team’s goal is to scale our operations, by improving alert review tools and automation while maintaining strong process auditability and staying compliant with regulations. Additionally, you will be building a customer-facing UI for more convenient collection of information and documents.
As an engineering lead, you will be responsible for the quality of your team’s technical solutions, including code quality, architecture applicability, performance, reliability and adherence to company-wide engineering standards.
As a people manager, you will be responsible for your team's productivity, goal setting, career path identification, mentoring and supporting people in your team.
Our main challenges are:
- staying on top of changing regulatory requirements globally
- performing necessary screening checks without compromising instant speed
- reducing screening impact on customer experience with smarter screening and automation
- ensuring screening engine scalability and security as Wise grows.
What does it take?
- Experience working with Java, Spring framework, asynchronous message queues and have worked with microservices architecture – this is essential
- Experience leading, coaching and mentoring high performing teams, building development plans and setting personal goals for engineers in your teams
- Comfortable working on big challenges and taking full ownership of the customer journey
- Experience building and designing scalable and performing systems
- Comfortable with SQL databases, optimisation and transaction
- A passion for international finance, foreign exchange and payment systems
