Engineering Lead – Liquid Cooling (CDUs)
Job Summary
Vertiv is seeking an Engineering Lead to guide the technical direction and product development of Rear Door Heat Exchangers and Coolant Distribution Units used in data center liquid cooling. The role provides lead support across global engineering teams, ensuring product platforms meet performance, quality, and cost objectives while promoting collaboration and standardization across regions.
This position leads Vertiv’s global engineering efforts for liquid cooling products within the Thermal business. The Engineering Lead defines and drives product architecture, design standards, and validation approaches across multiple engineering centers.
You will collaborate with cross-functional teams around the world to ensure consistency in design and execution, while mentoring engineers and influencing global product strategy. The ideal candidate is a technical leader who balances strategic direction with hands-on problem-solving and an inclusive leadership style.
This position will be based onsite at Vertiv's Westerville, OH (Polaris) office location.
Responsibilities
- Guide product architecture and technical strategy for DCD and CDU platforms.
- Establish and maintain global design standards, documentation methods, and validation processes.
- Coordinate engineering activities across regions to align technical execution and schedules.
- Provide technical guidance across thermal, structural, and fluid design areas including pumps, valves, and heat exchangers.
- Oversee design reviews, validation testing, and reliability programs.
- Partner with program management and operations to ensure smooth production launches.
- Lead supplier technical discussions and drive cost and quality improvements.
- Mentor engineers and build technical capabilities across global teams.
- Stay current with market and technology trends to influence platform roadmaps.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- 12+ years of experience in product design and development, with at least 5 years in a technical lead role.
- Expertise in liquid cooling, HVAC, or thermal management systems.
- Deep understanding of mechanical design principles, thermal-fluid performance, and system integration.
- Proficiency in PTC Creo and PLM systems such as Oracle PD Cloud or Windchill.
- Experience leading cross-functional and cross-regional teams.
- Strong communication, decision-making, and mentoring skills.
- Preferred
- Knowledge of ASME, UL, CE, or PED compliance standards.
- Experience in global process harmonization or platform-based design.
- Familiarity with CFD or system-level modeling tools.
- Background working with international suppliers and contract manufacturers.
