The Advanced Materials Group at Leidos is seeking a motivated Engineering Intern – Computational Fluid Dynamics to work in our Huntsville AL, office this upcoming summer of 2026. This role will be an in-person position. Our ideal candidate will be enrolled in an Engineering program. As an Engineering Intern you will gain hands on experience working on challenging projects in a dynamic environment.
Our interns will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals on a variety of program goals. We are seeking someone with a strong academic background in engineering, finite element analysis, excellent problem-solving skills, and a desire to learn and grow. Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and run CFD simulations in support of ongoing programs
- Collaborate with experienced professionals to build models in COMSOL
- Collaborate with senior engineers to refine models and troubleshoot new and existing models
- Assist in the validation of models through comparison with analytical results
- Contribute to the development of project plans and timelines.
- Learn and adhere to company policies and procedures.
- Attend meetings and provide updates on project progress.
- Continuously seek opportunities to learn and improve skills in engineering.
- Maintain communication with team members and supervisors to ensure project goals are met.
- Demonstrate strong problem problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically.
- Take initiative and show a willingness to learn and take in new challenges.
- Adhere to project deadlines and deliver high-quality work.
- Represent the company in a professional manner and uphold its values and standards.
- Craft and present a poster by the end of the summer highlighting your projects/work
Basic Qualifications
- US Citizen
- 3.0 GPA or higher
- Currently enrolled in a degree program of Engineering, Computer Science, or other related discipline at an accredited University.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a collaborative environment.
- Experience writing technical reports and documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with finite element analysis software (COMSOL, Ansys, OpenFoam, or other)
- Experience with programming languages (Python, C, C++)
- Strong technical background in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and mathematics
