As Engineering Director for Acquiring, Settlement & Risk, you will lead one of Trustly’s most critical domains, spanning 5 to 7 teams and powering high-volume, high-availability systems that process live transactions at scale.
At the core of our payment infrastructure, this domain owns acquiring flows, settlement pipelines, and real-time risk decisioning. As we continue to scale globally, we are evolving from a predominantly monolithic architecture toward a more modular, resilient setup - strengthening ownership, operational excellence, and scalability.
Partnering closely with a Product Leader, you will jointly own the domain’s strategy, organization, and outcomes, playing a central role in completing this transformation.
We’re looking for an engineering leader experienced in driving modernization at scale - combining technical depth, product instinct, and the ability to build high-performing teams.
What you'll do
Co-own the domain’s mission, strategy, and roadmap with your Product counterpart, shaping both the “what” and the “how” as a leadership duo.
Develop a deep understanding of the business and customer needs, forming your own perspective and constructively challenging product direction.
Lead technical strategy and architectural transformation, including major initiatives (e.g., monolith to microservices), defining trade-offs, team boundaries, and ownership models with your domain architect.
Drive delivery and operational excellence, ensuring reliability, performance, scalability, and mature incident response practices.
Manage and develop a multi-team engineering organization, coaching Engineering Managers, building empowered teams, and shaping structure for high performance.
Champion engineering best practices, translating business problems into effective solutions and ensuring alignment with Trustly’s standards, processes, and ways of working.
Beyond the domainAs a member of Trustly's Senior Technology Leadership team, help drive improvements to Trustly’s engineering competence.
Play a key role in attracting, developing, and retaining top engineering talent for Trustly.
Shape Trustly’s engineering standards, processes, and ways of working.
Build a culture of empowerment and servant leadership.

Track record of setting technical strategy and driving architectural transformation across teams, including complex system migrations.
Experience building and operating mission-critical systems with a focus on reliability, scalability, and performance.
Built empowered product teams where engineers own problems and outcomes.
Clear, direct leader with strong coaching skills, balancing technical leadership, people management, and delivery.
What We Do
At Trustly, we envision a world in which online payments are fast, simple and secure for everyone — merchants, consumers and banks alike. One hundred years ago, cash was king. People got paid in cash, carried it in their wallets, and bought things with it at the local store. Payment was easy. Oh, how the times have changed. Today, our salaries are deposited straight into our bank accounts and we shop online, from merchants all around the world. So why is it so hard to pay straight from our bank accounts? For consumers, paying online should be as easy as sliding a bill across the counter. And accepting payments and issuing refunds should be the least of merchants’ worries. Credit cards, debit cards, e-wallets, invoices and cash-on-delivery are all middlemen levying fees, debt and interest for the simple task of moving money from one person to another. At Trustly, we work hard to make online payments easy.
Why Work With Us
At Trustly, we work hard to make online payments easy. We’re dynamic, not stuffy. We’ve got the drive and ambition of a startup and the experience and advantage of a scale-up, all wrapped up in one amazing team. The pace is fast, and change is frequent. We prioritize agility to adapt to whatever tomorrow brings.
