Job Summary:
- Title – Engineering Director
- Location – San Diego, CA, onsite

The Engineering Director will lead and support a multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for the development, execution, and sustainment of advanced technology products and programs. Based in San Diego, CA, this onsite role operates on a 9/80 schedule and may require up to 25% travel to customer locations within the continental United States (CONUS) and outside the continental United States (OCONUS). The Engineering Director is responsible for engineering resource planning, technology and product roadmap development, Independent Research and Development (IRAD) planning, and oversight of technical program execution. This position also plays a key role in mentoring engineering talent, supporting business growth through technical proposals, and ensuring successful execution of development programs from concept through production.
Essential Functions:
- Developing and executing the engineering organization's strategic vision and long-term roadmap.
- Resource allocation loading of Engineering Staff to ensure costs are in alignment with customer contracts and business financial plans.
- Planning for IRADs and Product Roadmaps; Determining TRL and MRL for products in development
- Support Project Engineering roles on IRADs and Programs of Record (POR) as needed.
- Create work plans, technical objectives, and program schedules including detailed creation of Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) for project execution.
- Provide review and monitoring of Technical Development programs including Gate Reviews and Technical Baseline Reviews.
- Oversee Mechanical Engineering design team for Electronic Packaging and Thermal/Vibration modeling as needed.
- Provide leadership to engineering staff, including hiring, career development and mentoring of engineers to ensure skillset development and succession planning is proactively managed.
- Prepare technical proposals for government agencies and prime contractors
- Travel to customer sites in CONUS and OCONUS
Minimum Qualifications:
- Years of experience – 12 years as Mechanical Engineering Lead or Engineering Director, or in a comparable technical leadership role.
- Degree – BS in an Engineering discipline (i.e., Software, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering), Masters degree is preferred
- Certifications - Cost Account Director (CAM) Certification
- Clearance – Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance, Active Secret Clearance preferred
- Specific software/program experience – Microsoft Office ANSYS, SOLIDWORKS, MATLAB, DOORS, Visio, Jira, Primavera P6
- Experience applying ASME Y14.5 for drawings, tolerance stack-up analysis and manufacturing feasibility
Preferred Qualifications:
- Soft skills – Ability to create collaboration among Engineering, Program Management, Business Development, and Integrated Supply Chain groups. Ability to communicate effectively verbally with both internal and external customers including the creation and presentation of PowerPoint charts for face-to-face and remote meetings.
- Certifications that aren’t required but nice to have – Systems Engineering Certification, Professional Engineer Certification, Scrum Master Certification
- Software/programs that aren’t required but nice to have – Experience with C/C++ programming
- Proven ability to influence teams, drive technical execution, and support strategic business objectives in a fast-paced environment.
Cubic Pay Range:
$232,000.00 - $253,000.00 + benefits.
The Cubic pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
