Engineering Continuous Improvement & Process Manager

The Engineering Continuous Improvement & Process Manager will establish procedures, standard work, and effectiveness metrics for core, global engineering processes in alignment with customer, industry, and regulatory requirements as well as AS9100. This individual will also provide process development, improvement, and assurance expertise to all functions and locations within the Military Aircraft Group and Commercial Aircraft Group Engineering organizations.  The Continuous Improvement & Process Manager will manage a group of individuals, including project, process and digital engineers.  This individual may be located at any Moog location, preferably in East Aurora, NY.

The Engineering Continuous Improvement & Process Manager will be expected to:

  • Manage the Engineering Project & Process Group team, which includes recruiting, developing, and motivating staff; developing annual and multi-year goals for team accomplishments; and preparing annual budget recommendations.
  • Collaborate with Engineering Leadership and Managers to prioritize and deliver effective new processes, process improvements, and continuous improvement initiatives within engineering.
  • Collaborate with process stakeholders both inside and outside of engineering to ensure processes connect robustly with internal givers and receivers.
  • Process development – provide advisory services to engineering leaders including decision-making and governance frameworks, process and control training, and the use of Lean principles; provide resources for planning and executing process development projects; implement industry best practices for process development.
  • Process improvement – provide process improvement support to all engineering functions; work with business partners to drive cross-functional engineering process improvements; recommend process improvement projects based on process assurance outputs.  
  • Process assurance –conduct process audits and provide audit reports to engineering leadership; create process maps and control matrices for new and updated engineering processes, identify controls, and key process indicators (KPIs).
  • Process deployment – plan and execute process deployment projects, including training, support resources, and communications; provide coaching and support to engineering teams as they adopt new or improved processes.
  • Project leadership – Manage portfolio of improvement projects.  For projects owned by this group, lead project engineers to create and manage scope, schedule, budget, risks, ensuring disciplined execution and timely delivery of capabilities to the end users.
  • Ensure engineering process artifacts, including process documents, process metrics, audit reports, document templates, and process-training materials are captured and maintained in central IT repositories.
  • Represent Engineering on the Business Management Document Library (BMDL) Document Approval Board (DAB).

A qualified candidate should have the following experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related technical degree required; Master’s degree in engineering, Business, or a related technical degree is preferred.
  • 10 years of experience in design and development engineering with a minimum of 3 years of experience in a management or supervisory role required, or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in facilitating change initiatives that have a broad impact with many stakeholders and a variety of stakeholder needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple competing projects across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Proven capabilities in managing and working collaboratively within a multicultural, geographically dispersed environment are required. Direct reports may be located at any Military Aircraft Group or Commercial Aircraft Group site.
  • Experience coaching individuals and teams on problem-solving, accepting change, and continuous improvement is required.
  • Strong communication skills are required, with the ability to effectively communicate and influence all levels of staff, at Moog Inc., our customers, and our suppliers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrable project management experience, particularly in leadership roles for large-scale business process development and improvement projects, is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrable expertise in process development and process improvement is required; formal certification in Lean, Design for Six Sigma, and Advanced Product Quality Planning tools is preferred.
  • Demonstrable expertise using Moog’s engineering and configuration/document management software (Teamcenter, Subversion, JIRA, Connect/SharePoint, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of applicable industry standards, including AS9100D, AS9145, ARP4754A, DO-178, and DO-254.

Salary Range Transparency:

Buffalo, NY $140,000.00–$180,000.00 Annually

The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Moog salary range for this position in the given work location. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range(s) listed is just one component of Moog's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, employee stock purchase plan, an open paid time off policy, and many region-specific benefits.
