Wells Fargo is seeking an Engineering Associate - Database Engineering & Automation to join the Chief Technology Office (CTO) aligned to Database and Middleware Operations (DMO). This role supports critical database platforms and data services used across Treasury and enterprise engineering teams, with a strong focus on automation, data analysis, and foundational AI/ML techniques.
The role is part of a fast-paced collaborative database operations team that manages and modernizes distributed database platforms, including MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and YugabyteDB. As an early career engineer, you will gain hands on experience supporting database administration, performance tuning, automation, and data driven insights that improve system reliability and operational efficiency.
This position supports AI focused database analysis initiatives, where you will assist in preparing datasets, running baseline machine learning models, tracking performance metrics, and identifying trends or data quality issues. You will contribute to automation scripts, reproducible notebooks, and documentation, while working closely with senior engineers to validate results, enhance data pipelines, and translate findings into concise, data driven recommendations for engineering and operations teams.
You will also participate in the Career Opportunities in Development and Engineering (CODE) Program - a two-year development program that runs alongside your full-time experience. CODE is designed for recent grads, coding bootcamp alumni and individuals with hands-on technical experience looking to break into tech. No four-year degree is required.

In this role, you will:
- Support enterprise database platforms, including MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and YugabyteDB, through basic administration, performance monitoring, and tuning activities.
- Assist with AI focused data analysis by preparing datasets, running baseline ML models, tracking metrics, and identifying trends or data quality concerns.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts and tooling using Python and Ansible to improve efficiency, consistency, and reliability of database operations.
- Contribute to GenAI enabled automation initiatives that reduce manual effort and support scalable operations.
- Help build and maintain reproducible notebooks, scripts, and documentation to support analysis, automation, and knowledge sharing.
- Collaborate with senior database engineers to validate results, enhance data pipelines, and translate analysis into actionable, data driven recommendations.
- Provide production support for database systems, including participation in an on call rotation (approximately every 8-10 weeks) to support production issues.
- Follow engineering best practices related to change management, documentation, risk discipline, and operational excellence.
- 6+ months of Technology Engineering and Solutions experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
- Foundational understanding of database concepts, including relational and non relational databases.
- Exposure to database technologies such as MongoDB, PostgreSQL, YugabyteDB, or similar platforms through coursework, training, or hands on projects.
- Experience or exposure to Python scripting for automation, analysis, or data processing.
- Familiarity with automation tools such as Ansible or similar configuration management technologies.
- Basic understanding of data analysis or foundational ML techniques, including preparing datasets and evaluating results.
- Interest in AI and GenAI enabled automation within engineering or operations environments.
- Experience communicating technical issues or access-related concerns across technical and non-technical teams.
- Demonstrated passion for technology and eagerness to learn new tools and concepts.
- Bachelor's in computer science or related field preferred but not required.
- The selected candidate for this role must be able to begin employment by March 18, 2026, in a full-time capacity. This position is required to work from the designated posted office location and must be able to meet all expectations of the current hybrid work schedule, including regular in-office attendance as defined by the team and program requirements.
- Participate in an on-call rotation approximately once every 8-10 weeks to support production systems.
- Actively engage in the two-year CODE Program, including participation in training, mentorship, networking events, and career development activities.
- Relocation assistance is not provided for this role.
