VDDV CFD Methods Engineer
Description
Hybrid work position: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.
This position requires an employee to be onsite every other week.
This motivated individual will be responsible for developing and validating new simulation methods using CFD for design, development, and validation of vehicle & propulsion systems & subsystems
Responsibilities:
- Use technical expertise in tribology & CFD to conceive, plan and lead methods development, validation and implementation activities.
- Participate in the design of new products and design improvements to existing products. Provide upfront guidelines and optimize designs using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software.
- Add new capabilities and functions to the analytical tools within the area of expertise and apply those tools and knowledge to solve difficult design challenges.
- Provide lubrication related expertise, CFD and structural FEA, to answer technical questions and create solutions for existing and new applications.
Additional Description
Required Qualifications:
- 4 years of proven academic or industrial experience in development of analysis methods, their implementation and validation
- Expertise in the development of physics based models, tribology, heat transfer and CFD analysis are required.
- Strong problem solving, analytical, and conceptual thinking skills, resourceful and adaptive with the ability to find ways around obstacles to develop solutions.
- Strong project management, prioritizing and multi-tasking skills to work in a dynamic fast pace environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with CAD system, FEA software Nastran, Abaqus, and CFD software such as Star-CCM+, Pumplinx, Fluent
- CFD experience using Star CCM+
- Programming skills using Fortran, C, C++
- Static/Dynamic Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience using Abaqus software
- High level of oral and written communication skills
- High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others
Education:
Masters in Mechanical Engineering required
Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering preferred
