Job Description Summary
This is a System Safety leadership position that guides GM in-house automated driving platform safety development, including multiple controller integration and embedded software implementation

Core Responsibilities
- Provide technical guidance and safety process guidance to develop design relevant safety requirements
- Collaborate with SDV/Integration/Performance/Validation and provide safety assessment of GM automated driving platform that uses various communication protocols and cloud services
- Deliver high quality safety work product that meets program timing
- Lead resolution of safety critical issues
- Ensure safety and reliability are properly met in Ultra Cruise feature, critical systems, platform, and in-house application software
- Deliver integrated Ultra Cruise safety case, including both functional safety and Safety of The Intended Functionality (SOTIF), and ensure its sufficiency and approval for production
- Ensure multiple vehicle programs that has Ultra Cruise can achieve required vehicle level safety integrity
- Serve on System Safety peer review boards as required
- Assist GSSLT initiatives including process development and new tools' implementation
- Assist sourcing activities as required
- Mentor system safety engineers on the execution of system safety analysis of controller architectures and safety critical systems
Required Skills and Experience
- A minimum of 5 years embedded systems development experience
- Knowledge of hardware/software architecture, design patterns, and limitations of safety critical controller
- Full controller development lifecycle experience (requirements, design, verification, release builds)
- Full program execution experience of safety critical feature/system (requirements, design, validation)
- Hands-on experience with various safety analysis methodologies, including but not limited to Fault Tree Analysis, Functional Interface Analysis, SOTIF
- Experience with IEC 61508, ISO 26262 and/or ISO 21448 safety standards
- Mentoring / coaching ability
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Knowledge of embedded systems with multiple cores with safety critical applications
- Familiarity of communication and real time components on OS (Linux, Android)
- Experience in distributed control for complex control system
- Understanding of applications running cloud services and communication channels
Minimum Education Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Computer, Control, Mechatronics) or Computer Science
- Advanced degrees preferred
