About the job
The Red Hat Focused Solutions team is looking for a Sustaining Cloud Architect with direct Kubernetes and Red Hat OpenStack Platform-based cloud infrastructure experience to join us in the U.S. In this role, you will provide deep technical assistance for our vetted telecommunication reference architecture to telecommunications service providers. This team works alongside Red Hat's professional services team to promote adoption of Red Hat's 5G/RAN platform solutions and provide ongoing Day 2 support for telecom providers. You will serve as an evangelist by sharing a joint vision for Red Hat's multi-product solutions, positioning Red Hat as an innovator and spreading awareness of our emerging open source technologies. As a Sustaining Cloud Architect, you will apply your experience with Kubernetes and Red Hat OpenStack Platform to support applications providing virtual network functions (VNFs) and cloud-native network functions (CNFs) to the telecom industry. You will focus on sustaining broad IT strategic topics and solutions like open source automation, hybrid cloud, IT modernization, DevOps, and advanced application development concepts. You'll partner with the sales management team to provide additional support required for specific opportunities with extra attention on key accounts. You will also play a critical role in bringing together internal cross-functional teams, including product engineering, technical support, consulting, and sales. You will work as part of a team of sustaining architects who serve as customer advocates and help architect and sustain innovative supported solutions implemented in a reliable way. You'll need to have extensive industry experience and domain expertise to play a leading role in sustaining the design and project delivery of these business-critical solutions. Well-qualified, home-based applicants throughout the U.S. will be considered to work remotely in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.
What you will do

  • Engage in deep technical knowledge sessions with Red Hat's consulting services team
  • Create training documentation to ensure deep technical expertise within the Focused Solutions team
  • Work closely with product business, product engineering, consulting, and sales teams to ensure excellent customer experience with Red Hat's portfolio of offerings and solutions
  • Contribute to the development of repeatable methodologies and tools designed to scale; design and scope delivery projects and lead consulting services teams through successful customer pilot and production deployments
  • Design, create, and deliver technical content to enable the broader Red Hat organization to sell, service, and support network functions virtualization (NFV) solutions at scale
  • Coach members to accomplish project goals and meet established schedules
  • Monitor or facilitate scrum ceremonies, including backlog grooming, daily scrum, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives


What you will bring

  • 5+ years of industry experience, preferably within the telecommunications service provider or enterprise IT industries
  • Knowledge of one or more communications service provider markets
  • Experience with containers and Kubernetes container cluster manager
  • Specific knowledge of the NFV and software-defined networking (SDN) areas
  • Understanding of advanced networking concepts, including datacenter and wide area networking, tunneling technologies and overlay networking, security policies, topology discovery, and path computation
  • Specific knowledge of mobile technologies, e.g., 5G, 4G, 3G, or 2G, or fixed networks, e.g., network architectures, service models, or service provisioning
  • Proven record of working in a strategic advisory capacity to senior telecommunications network and business executives
  • Proven ability to work seamlessly with distributed cross-functional teams to achieve success on behalf of customers
  • Deep understanding of the ETSI NFV architecture and the main telco use cases, e.g., vCPE, vEPC, vCDN, vIMS, vRAN, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and educate others on rapidly changing technology and strategies to maintain a broad skill set in common enterprise IT technologies across development, automation, and operations
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English; ability to convey complex information to customers clearly and concisely
  • Willingness to travel to customer locations when needed


The following are considered a plus:

  • Familiarity with technologies like Open VSwitch, OpenFlow, Red Hat OpenStack Platform, Kubernetes, Docker, etc.
  • Familiarity with networking protocols like TCP/IP, Ethernet, 802.1Q, GRE, VXLAN, L2VPN, MPLS, BGP, IS-IS. LACP, DHCP, DNS, NTP, PTP, etc.
  • Knowledge of telecom technologies and industry trends, including network architectures, technologies, services, etc., used in wireline, wireless, and cable operators
  • Working knowledge of data path acceleration tools like SR-IOV, DPDK, or VPP/fd.io
  • Broad and deep technical experience with virtualization and cloud technologies, including Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) cloud solutions like Red Hat OpenShift, Red Hat OpenStack Platform, enterprise virtualization, or IT automation
  • Scripting and programming knowledge, e.g., Puppet, Ruby, Python, Golang, etc.
