The Operations Platform team enables Color to successfully operate in a high-complex environment by building end-to-end tools and software. Our team’s work impacts the company at every level - from clinical lab to bioinformatics to supply chain.

How You'll Contribute:

  • Help design and architect next generation of internal tools and lead efforts to migrate from previous versions of tools
  • Collaborate with UX Infra and Design teams to build reusable components that are part of Color Design system
  • Help identify scale, monitoring, and reliability issues in current tools and advocate for solutions to these issues
  • Collaborate with Frontend Engineers across org on setting standards for code quality and application architecture
  • Mentor and support other engineers on team on designing and delivering features
  • Participate in code reviews for team members and for other engineers on services owned by UV
  • Work closely with Tech Lead, PM, and EM on team go guide technical vision for team’s work

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • You’re passionate about using software and technology to positively impact community health and healthcare access. You want to apply your skills in the service of a greater mission
  • You have 7+ years of industry experience as a software engineer (or equivalent role)
  • You maintain a high bar for quality of code and avoid unnecessary duplication and awkward workarounds
  • You're passionate about rigorous engineering practices and discipline: code reviews, automated testing, logging, monitoring, alerting, etc. 
  • You effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical collaborators: you identify core challenges in complex situations, explain trade offs, and incorporate feedback to make decisions using code reviews, docs, wikis, meetings, and other channels as needed
  • You have experience and knowledge of when to build a custom solution to a problem vs finding an off the shelf solution
  • You have experience building robust frontends applications following industry standards, creating an extensible and maintainable architecture
  • You have experience migrating legacy applications from one framework/architecture to a new one
  • You have experience with modern web stacks including AWS, SQL, REST APIs, React, HTML5, CSS3, and ES6+

Nice to Have:

  • You have experience with modern web backends including Python, Django, and other REST frameworks
  • You have experience with healthcare: health standards like HL7 or FHIR and working with Electronic Health Records (such as EPIC, Cerner, etc.)
  • You have experience with LIMS systems and clinical resulting and reporting
  • You have experience working with PII and PHI and HIPAA compliance

Possible Projects To Contribute To:

  • Modernize infrastructure by converting existing Angular framework to React 
  • Lead efforts to improve the front-end infrastructure by building out reusable components
  • Design and build a more configurable and manageable resulting/reporting platform
  • Build features in our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) that allow Color to process a very high-volume of samples in both the genetic and COVID-19 labs
  • Help design and build the next generation of our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
  • Help redesign data models to support migrating in-house fulfillment application to a 3rd party tool and architect a new ordering system
