We are looking for a Staff Simulation Project Engineer to join our team. The goal of the Staff Simulation Project Engineer at Wisk is to effectively coordinate, manage and lead simulation projects that are cross-functional and cross-organizational in nature. Said projects are critical to Wisk’s success, enabling the development and certification of the first fully autonomous all-electric aircraft that performs and operates safely in an urban air-mobility environment. Simulation applications include:

- Real-time, Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL), Person-in-the-Loop (PIL) and System-Level simulations 

- Monte-Carlo type simulations for the development of autonomy algorithms

- Avionics hardware and embedded software development and certification activities

- Aircraft system development and certification activities

- Ground/control segment development and certification activities

- Evaluation and validation of aircraft performance 

- Concept of Operations (ConOps) definition and validation

- Fleet Management System definition and validation

- Operator/’pilot’ training

- Maintenance training 

Why we need you:

  • With that vision in mind, we are looking for a Staff Simulation Project Engineer to join our Simulation Department. The goal of the Staff Simulation Project Engineer at Wisk is to successfully coordinate, manage and lead cross-functional and cross-organizational simulation projects. In support of this goal, you will be part of the Simulation Department that is responsible for developing, deploying and supporting an integrated simulation capability for the enterprise. Your mission is to ensure that the Simulation Department successfully delivers simulation solutions that meet the technical, budgetary and schedule requirements of Wisk’s programs.
  • The successful candidate is a highly knowledgeable and experienced technical leader who has experience managing the development of complex simulations; particularly in the context of aircraft and/or ground segment system level testing, certification or training. In this role, the candidate must be an effective communicator who is able to build consensus amongst internal and external stakeholders. In addition to being proactive, agile and pragmatic, the candidate must be able to effectively balance competing tactical and strategic needs on an ongoing basis. 

What you will do:

  • As part of the Simulation Department, you will work with internal and external stakeholders to define and deliver simulation capabilities that will enable and support a novel type of aircraft development targeting the autonomous UAM market
  • You will work within an Agile/Scrum environment serving as a Scrum Master.
  • You will work with the Simulation Department Manager and the Simulation Group Leaders to ensure that the Simulation Department is appropriately resourced to meet program technical, budgetary and schedule objectives
  • You will provide technical guidance and oversight for the development, integration, acceptance, certification and sustainment of aircraft and/or ground/control simulations used for a variety of purposes throughout the enterprise 
  • You will define simulation program/project plans 
  • You will be responsible and accountable for the successful execution of simulation program/project plans 
  • You will monitor the execution of simulation program/project plans and report on progress and risks regularly
  • You will define and manage simulation requirements
  • You will work with the Simulation Department Manager and the Simulation Group Leaders to define and manage the simulation product roadmaps and backlogs
  • You will assist in the establishment and management of departmental budgets and schedules 

What you have done:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline with 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing the development of complex simulations; preferably in a real-time simulation environment
  • Experience managing the development of HIL/SIL simulations, test environments and test assets
  • Experience with the modeling, stimulation and/or integration of several aspects of complex aerospace simulation, such as: 
  • ---- Aircraft Avionics (FMS, EGPWS, WXR, TCAS etc)

    ---- Aircraft Systems (pneumatics, electrics, hydraulics, etc)

    ---- Aircraft Flight Dynamics (aerodynamics, stability, flight controls, etc)

    ---- Command and Control (C2) links

    ---- Air Traffic Control Systems

    ---- Communication Systems (ACARS, CPDLC, etc)

    ---- GPS/Navigation Systems

  • Experience serving in any of the following roles:
  • ---- Project/Program Engineer

    ---- Project/Program Manager 

    ---- Technical Lead (or similar)

    ---- Group Leader (or similar)

  • Experience with software development, preferably using C/C++, Python, Matlab/Simulink 
  • Experience managing the development of software-centric products; preferably in the aerospace industry
  • Familiarity with Requirements Management practices and tools (i.e. DOORS, Polarian, JIRA, etc)
  • Familiarity with Project Management practices (PMI/PMBOK, Prince 2, etc) and tools (i.e. Microsoft Project, Primavera, JIRA, etc)
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum management methodologies
  • Familiarity with Earned Value Management (EVM) 
  • Familiarity with common aircraft communication/avionics protocols such as ARINC 429 and ARINC 664
  • Familiarity with aircraft avionics, aircraft systems, aircraft flight dynamics, and aircraft operations
  • Creative approach to problem solving
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Desired:

  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment with changing needs and requirements
  • Strong software architecture design and development skills
  • Prior experience with the design, development, test and certification of Flight Simulation Training Devices (FSTDs) or of integrated simulation and test assets (i.e. System Integration Test Station, Iron Bird, etc.)
  • Familiarity with FAR Part 60 (FAA) or one of its equivalents
  • Familiarity with ARINC 708, ARINC 615, ARINC 610, MIL-STD-1553, MIL-STD-1760 or CAN bus
  • Familiarity with DO-178, DO-254, DO-330, DO-331 or similar certification standards
  • Familiarity with MBSE and MBD tools and methodologies
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies (GCP, AWS, Azure) and web services/applications
  • Familiarity with scaling simulation applications in a cloud environment
