About the Role
Uber is looking for a mature technical leader to provide technical direction for all identity and access management capabilities across the company in the core security engineering team. As a staff engineer within CSE, you will have both hands-on technical skills, but also be able to operate in a leadership and architectural capacity. Your role is foundational to the growth and maturity of the IAM function at Uber.

What You Will Do
As a Staff Security Engineer for Uber's Internal Identity and Access Management you will be responsible for driving the identity and access management architecture, analytics, and software development that power thousands of internal tools, production workloads, and fleets of machines.
In this role, you will be expected to bring together efforts that span across Uber in a cohesive way that connects a multitude of systems, all working together seamlessly to manage the internal identity of every individual at Uber, govern and control the access to assets, and improve overall access health through identity lifecycle management, authorization, secrets and encryption, and automated compliance.

  • Provide hands-on technical leadership in designing, implementing, testing, and rolling out to mature Uber's overall IAM capabilities.
  • Charter cross-team and cross-organization collaboration to create alignment and build trust; seek out, build and sustain a broad set of technical strategies
  • Be a role model on acting with good judgment and responsibility. Engineers across the organization will look to you on how best to plan and execute on projects.
  • See the big picture and identify strategically important problems, inefficiencies, or opportunities for meaningful improvements. Drive alignment on how to tackle these and deliver high-leverage solutions on these at the group and organization level.
  • Raise the bar on sustainable engineering by improving best practices, producing best in class of code, documentation, testing, and monitoring.

Basic Qualifications

  • Proven track record of successful IAM implementations and support of those applications
  • Undergraduate degree in computer science or equivalent.
  • Excellent understanding of authentication, authorization, RBAC, ABAC, least privilege and segregation of duties access control best practices
  • Proven experience leading and making strategic decisions on design, implementation, and productionization of solutions around identities, access management, accounts management, roles and entitlements management
  • 8+ years of relevant security engineering and/or IAM experience
  • 5+ years of experience with multiple authentication and authorization solutions and directory platforms. Deep understanding of SSO, IDP, federation, SAML, OIDC, LDAP. Knowledge of privilege access management solutions, MFA, adaptive/conditional access management
  • Knowledge of IAM governance and risk management
  • Experience with Java, Go, Python or Node (bonus points for more than one).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write detailed technical documents.
