Responsibilities

The Launch, Strike & Range department within the Advanced Development & Planning Division supports multiple customers on the development of hypersonic vehicles, space & launch vehicle technology, and advanced space & launch vehicle concept architectures. The selected candidate will lead an innovative and agile team to support these efforts for the benefit of the emerging space enterprise. 

 

Key Functions

  • Collaborate with customers and Aerospace management to develop plans for future work
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams to support SMC/Development Corps, SMC/Portfolio Architect, and other DoD & civil customers on the advancement of hypersonic and space & launch vehicle technology
  • Prepare and present study results and recommendations to customers and Aerospace management
  • Prepare project budgets and manage project resources and execution

 

This position is available as an L2 Project Engineer and L3 Senior Project Engineer
 

Qualifications

Required Project Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or applied science from a recognized institution
  • 8 years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience with a focus on launch or space vehicles, hypersonic vehicles, and/or trajectory analysis preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and interact effectively government, Aerospace, and contractor personnel
  • Experience in concept assessments, advancing technologies, designing technology demonstrations, and establishing requirements for next-generation systems
  • Ability to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance 
  • Light to moderate travel is required

 

Preferred Project Engineer

  • Familiarity with electric propulsion concepts including High Powered Solar Electric Propulsion
  • Direct involvement in the development of launch vehicle and/or hypersonic vehicle technology 
  • Good working knowledge of orbital mechanics and experience performing orbital mechanics analysis 
  • Advanced degree in engineering or applied science

 

Required Sr Project Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or applied science from a recognized institution
  • 12 years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience with a focus on launch or space vehicles, hypersonic vehicles, and/or trajectory analysis preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams to perform multi-disciplinary trade studies
  • Demonstrated ability to develop briefings and present them to senior stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and interact effectively with senior government, Aerospace, and contractor personnel
  • Experience in concept assessments, advancing technologies, designing technology demonstrations and establishing requirements for next-generation systems
  • Ability to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance 
  • Light to moderate travel is required

 

Preferred Sr Project Engineer

  • Experience leading or participating in the launch vehicle, spacecraft, and/or enterprise architecture studies
  • Familiarity with electric propulsion concepts including High Powered Solar Electric Propulsion
  • Direct involvement in the development of launch vehicle and/or hypersonic vehicle technology 
  • Good working knowledge of orbital mechanics and experience performing orbital mechanics analysis 
  • Advanced degree in engineering or applied science
