Department OverviewThe Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) will be responsible for using their extensive software engineering skills to facilitate and equip the development team with the frameworks, tools, and knowledge needed to surround all production code with automated tests at every level from small unit tests to large full-system tests. Our software runs in mission critical life-saving devices that first responders and the people they serve depend on every minute of every day. So quality cannot be outsourced or crowd-sourced.
Job Description

Looking for a self motivated, results oriented, passionate Software Engineer to design and implement test platforms and frameworks using industry best practices. This is a coding role that requires experience with test automation and software engineering skills aligned with Agile Software Development practices.

This individual works to ensure that the platforms, frameworks and tests meet the needs of the software development and test communities, enabling them to perform their primary product development and testing activities in a highly productive and efficient manner.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Build and maintain test frameworks that are used by the development teams to write tests at all layers as production software is being developed

• Develop automated tests alongside the development teams

• Work with teams to develop a comprehensive test plan that details the overall test strategy and includes trade offs based on real world constraints

• Drive and champion an organizational culture of testing and quality with a vision towards Continuous Delivery

• Keep abreast of industry standards and newest testing methodologies and tools

• Collaborate with software development teams that struggle to adopt a test-first approach to development

• Evaluate current test platforms and make recommendations for improvement or propose new platforms to facilitate rapid creation of automated tests.

• Support the Test Manager in achieving their strategic goals for the Test Team by providing technical support to the Manager and the team

• Continuously Innovate to improve efficiency and performance with the tools and frameworks

Preferred Skills:

• 0 to 3 years of software development/testing experience.
• Experience / Proficient in embedded software development using Object Oriented Analysis and Design
• Experience / Proficiency in C++
• Knowledge of Python and / or Java
• Experience / Proficiency in Agile/Scrum development methodologies is a plus
• Experience in wired & wireless communications protocols (USB, TCP/IP, P25, OSI networking stack) in embedded real-time systems is a plus
• Experience in Test Driven Development is a plus
• Experience with the use of test equipment such as logic analyzers, serial data analyzers, oscilloscopes etc.) is a plus
• Experience with development tools (such as compilers, emulators/JTAG, debuggers, etc.) is a plus

• Experience in developing test strategies based on industry best practices

• Experience with one or more of the following sets of technologies 

  • Scripting languages: Python / JavaScript / Ruby

  • Coding Languages: C / C++ / Java

  • Automation frameworks: CPPUTest, JUnit, JSystem 

• Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations 

• Experience with test driven development (TTD) 

• Ability to design and implement unit test cases, integration test cases and performance test cases at the API and UI level 

• Experience working in Agile Scrum teams

Basic Requirements

• B.S. in Computer Science or a related technical field

• 1+ years experience delivering test automation solutions and coding/delivering high quality software in an agile software organization
