To help guide the collaborative effort, we are seeking a Software Engineer to support our team. This role works on new development projects and improvements.
The Actuarial Software Engineering team at Northwestern Mutual is responsible for creating and improving systems that ensure the company can meet its financial obligations to its customers, employees, and field representatives. These systems are financial in nature, centered on risk products and benefit plans, and based on the professional knowledge of the actuary. The applications are varied, generally are mathematical in nature, and involve working in close partnerships with technical peers and actuarial business experts. The assignment will be on a team developing C++ applications. These applications are used by the actuaries to model our business and play a meaningful role in our financial success. You'll be part of a team that plays a crucial role in ensuring this great company continues to do great things for its customers.
Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate technical ability to develop, build, and implement software changes that meet business needs
  • Strive to continually improve our core systems, with a focus on delivering excellence to the business experts who rely on your work
  • Work with domain experts and technical peers to translate business needs into software engineering projects


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent professional experience
  • Classroom programming experience
  • Proven continuous learning approach
  • Ability to dissect problems and recommend solutions
  • Solid problem-solving skills and the ability to learn varied technologies
  • Experience with engineering best practices to include analyzing, designing, developing, deploying, and supporting software solutions and/or infrastructure implementations/upgrades.
  • Bring your new ideas to improve our software solutions!


Technical Skills:

  • Experience in C++, C#, VB.net, C, Object Oriented design patterns
  • Familiarity with DevOps and Git.
  • Strong technical skills to communicate technical topics to both technical teams and non-technical teams
