Senior Technical Writer

The Red Hat Ansible Engineering team is looking for a Senior Technical Writer to join our Red Hat Ansible Automation Controller team. In this role, you will work on far more than documentation; you will join a team that works with the upstream community and help grow our upstream contributors' engagement. Drawing on your passion for technology and the English language, you'll work closely with developers, engineers, and other subject matter experts to create content that helps our customers and upstream community understand our offerings and solutions. You'll be part of a team which maintains their own GitHub repositories, manages their own testing, building, and deployment software, and works with engineering teams to develop working code examples. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.
What you will do
- Work closely with content strategists, documentation program managers, engineering project teams, support teams, and other stakeholders to create and maintain high-quality documentation for upstream Ansible projects
- Engage and collaborate with customer feedback programs to address content gaps, respond to direct customer feedback, and promote continuous improvement of the documentation experience
- Keep up to date on changes of our offerings, customer use cases, and support issues
- Master the use of our upstream documentation toolchain
- Work with Quality Engineering (QE) and Development teams to improve the accuracy of your documentation
- Work closely with engineering teams to develop working code examples
What you will bring
- Enterprise-level technical writing experience, including collaborative writing experience
- Awareness of agile software development methodologies
- Familiarity with Red Hat's offerings and related industry products
- Understanding and use of version control systems
- Ability to collaborate in a global team environment, proactively engage subject matter experts, and follow through on commitments
- Working knowledge and experience operating in a Linux environment using the command line
- Experience with modular and topic-based documentation
- Ability to read, write, and compile technical documents, including feature descriptions, customer use cases, and release notes using industry best practices
- Experience with writing clear and concise procedural documentation for a technical audience
- Experience collaborating and directly interacting with globally-distributed stakeholders from diverse cultural backgrounds
- Familiarity with Git is a big plus
