The Automotive Edge QE Team is looking for a Senior Software Quality Engineer to join us. In this role, you will focus on testing the graphics stack for the Red Hat automotive offering. You will help us make sure that the user experience of Red Hat's automotive offering is a seamless experience for our customers and that each release fulfills the highest possible enterprise quality, performance, usability, supportability and certification criteria. As a Senior Software Quality Engineer, you should have the ability to think creatively and adapt to rapid change and be willing to learn new things. You will work together with some of the brightest engineers in the open source community. You will be part of Red Hat's culture that makes us unique in the Industry, enriched with open decision framework, open management practices, and diversity and inclusion. What you will do

  • Work in a cross-functional team together with other software engineers, quality engineers, and product and project managers to apply the implementation of those features and processes to the specific software offerings
  • Actively participate in the definition of software functional safety quality metrics, benchmarks, and related testing procedures
  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test suites within Yocto Project build system and related components including verification of the generated artifacts
  • Onboard automated tests into a continuous integration (CI) workflow
  • Analyze and prioritize quality risks and identify tests required to mitigate them
  • Perform both automated and manual testing
  • Debug and track issues and verify fixes
  • Ensure continued quality and user experience of tested offerings and assess quality of newly developed and planned features
  • Document and maintain test specifications and test reports
  • Mentor junior team members


What you will bring

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a related engineering field or relevant professional experience with 4+ years of experience in Linux quality engineering (QE) or software engineering
  • Solid skills and background in Linux
  • Solid skills in scripting, e.g., C or C++, Python, Shell, or Bash programming
  • Experience with UI automation frameworks, e.g., Appium, Dogtail, or OpenQA
  • Experience with software test planning, test case design, test script automation, and documentation
  • Excellent debugging, troubleshooting, and analytical skills
  • Knowledge of virtualization, emulation or containerization technologies, e.g., QEMU
  • Knowledge of Linux graphics stack, e.g., Mesa, digital rights management (DRM), or Mutter
  • Ability to identify potential risks connected to test development of assigned features and mitigate them
  • Ability to remain patient and diligent when working on detailed tasks
  • Ability to cooperate and communicate effectively with a global team
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and work under tight deadlines
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills in English


The following are considered a plus:

  • Experience debugging the Linux graphics stack, e.g., Wayland, X, or Mesa
  • Experience with CI and continuous delivery (CD)
  • Experience with Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform
  • Experience with agile methodologies and Jira
  • Experience testing software for embedded systems or internet of things (IoT) applications or safety critical applications
  • Experience with working on open source projects
  • Experience with functional safety standards, processes, and requirements like IEC 61508, ISO 26262, or ISO 21434
