Job summary
Come work for a premier open source company building enterprise software through open source methods. Red Hat's Ceph Engineering team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join us remotely or in one of our offices in North America (NA). In this role, you will work as part of a team which is developing and maintaining Red Hat's software-defined storage offerings - Red Hat Ceph Storage and Red Hat OpenShift Container Storage. As a member of the team, you will learn the internals of Red Hat Ceph Storage, a unique and successful storage architecture, and help to continuously improve the Red Hat Ceph Storage-based offerings. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.
Primary job responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, and maintain new features of Red Hat Ceph Storage
  • Review pull requests
  • Write unit and integration tests
  • Assist in design reviews
  • Respond on community mailing lists


Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, or demonstrated equivalent experience; master's degree is a plus
  • Good communication skills; ability to work in a globally distributed environment
  • 3+ years of system software development experience
  • Experience with C or C++
  • Basic (user-level) knowledge of Linux
  • Ability to learn quickly and to produce quality work with a high level of attention to detail


The following are considered a plus:

  • Python programming skills
  • Experience with Red Hat Ceph Storage or other systems, networking, or storage technologies
  • Experience working with distributed teams, delivering enterprise quality software, and working on open source software projects
  • Knowledge of operating systems, especially Linux and internals
