TL;DR 

In this role, you will have the sole focus of making adjustments to our system to enable continuous scale. This includes responsibilities ranging from analyzing complex queries to reduce time complexity, suggesting database modifications for read/write efficiencies, and updating the underlying infrastructure to support strenuous throughput thresholds. This role will require a deep understanding of the Ruby on Rails framework as well as PostgreSQL database design principles. We expect that you have worked on several production-scale applications and have a strong understanding of optimization strategies and core architecture.

What you will own & improve:

• You will own the core architecture of the application and will help advise in determining the future direction.
• You will improve the performance of the various endpoints of the application through optimization techniques.
• You will work with the team to recommend adjustments in the underlying data models to enable us to read/write in larger datasets with lower latencies.

What you already know:

• You have had a hands-on role in the broader transition from one architectural pattern to another and understand the nuances associated with planning these transitions with minimal interruption to the business.
• You have a knack for benchmarking, analyzing and updating complex API endpoints to create streamlined interfaces.
• You have a firm grasp of database principles as they relate to designing models which enable concurrency, reliability and scalability.

Required Technical Skills:

• Experience developing load testing automation in complex environments.
• Implemented load balancing and are familiar with the various load distribution algorithms.
• Extensive experience with New Relic or another comparable application performance monitoring platform.
• Have architected APIs which serve 100,000+ users and can handle 30-50 RPS throughput.
• Bonus Points: Transitioned from a monolithic architecture to a distributed microservices architecture before.

About the Team 

You will report to Zach Stradling, the 3rd Trainual employee and our Engineering Manager. You’ll also work closely with our Taylor Sell, our Director of Product, and the Product, Engineering, and Customer Experience teams!

Before you move forward: you will be asked to “try out” with a project that proves you can do what you’re applying to do!
