The Role

Global restaurant brands run their operation on the Crunchtime platform. Delivering a consistent guest experience across every location and managing food and labor costs are at the core of how Crunchtime’s software is used today in over 125,000 locations across 100+ countries by the world’s top restaurant and foodservice operators. Customers including Chipotle, Culver’s, Domino’s, Dunkin’, Five Guys and P.F. Chang’s rely on our top-ranked platform which now includes Zenput to manage inventory, staff scheduling, learning and development, food safety, operational tasks and audits.

About the role

As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for one or more engineering teams, from owning short term delivery efforts to ensuring the long term health and success of your people, your product, and, ultimately, the company.  Working collaboratively with talented engineers as an empathetic systems thinker you will continue to evolve our products and system of working. With your teams, you will build processes that help you get stuff done rather than slow things down.

You’ll help the Learning & Development team chart a path forward in a changing domain.
We’re actively working to replace aging client-side apps with a PWA built in React and Typescript; you’ll help us realize that!
Our software stack leans heavily on .NET and MS SQL Server in Azure. We’re pushing towards tighter feedback loops using CI/CD, and having a passion for this shift will serve you well!

What you’ll do as an Engineering Manager

  • Manage a team or two of engineers including all the people things: hiring, retention, performance management, coaching, etc. While we want someone familiar with hands-on engineering, this is a management role first and foremost.
  • Collaborate closely with an embedded product manager to ensure your team is building the Right Things in the short and long term
  • Champion the technical things your team needs to do to build the Right Way for long-term success while being pragmatic about the needs present today.
  • Contribute to and influence design and development decision-making to ensure we’re thinking soundly
  • Work in an agile environment to deliver value to our customers quickly and seek feedback rather than agonizing over getting it right the first time
  • Use good practices and context-appropriate tools to improve quality and reduce friction keeping delivery snappy
  • Use Jira, Slack, and Zoom to communicate with your team and the rest of the org

What we’re looking for

  • Experience managing engineers in multiple settings
  • Demonstrated software engineering experience
  • Experience in a player/coach role shaping the culture of the company and the team.
  • Strong communication skills, empathy, and emotional intelligence.
  • Equally comfortable facilitating and letting others drive while ensuring needs are met.
  • Past engineering experience and evidence of mentorship. Other engineers looked to you for technical guidance and advice. You're comfortable digging into the product and stack to build empathy and understanding.
  • Simplicity and pragmatism-implementing skills. (i.e. you don't over-engineer, but you do thoroughly consider the constraints)
  • Reps in the role and a tendency towards empowering over controlling.
  • As a manager, you've developed career plans, done performance management, performed interviews, and coached folks at a range of skill levels.
  • Someone who strives for excellence and has seen the practices needed to achieve it. You believe in good design and favor a code review culture with high test coverage, automation, performance and high availability.
  • Team Player skills. You ensure your team knows what is important, why, and what we’re doing to achieve it so we can all win together. You view product managers and designers as critical members of the team in order to build products that solve real problems. You value the global maximum over local maxima.
  • Kindness and second-order thinking. You value the safety and career development of your team over their short-term comfort. You provide frequent, direct, and constructive feedback.
  • Interest in the technical and/or business problems we are solving.
  • Someone who chooses joy and believes it’s important to have fun at work.
  • Someone fun and interesting who likes to build things. Not just software!

Nice to haves

  • Experience with our tech (React and Typescript, .NET, MS SQL Server, Azure, SCORM)
  • Experience working remotely
  • Experience with DevOps
  • Experience in the educational or restaurant domains
  • Expertise in and experience developing enterprise products and web products at scale
  • Experience with distributed systems, complex user interfaces or other challenging engineering problems

What you’ll get

  • Great mission-driven team members from diverse backgrounds with a strong company culture
  • Competitive pay
  • Vacation days (with premium)
  • Flexible PTO
  • Paid company holidays
  • Yearly team off-sites
  • International travel opportunities
  • Major medical, life, and disability insurance
  • Savings fund
  • Food vouchers
  • Christmas bonus (30 days)
  • Wellness benefits (Headspace, Ginger.io)
  • Work in an open environment on solutions that are reshaping the way businesses operate
  • Fun team events
  • Ability to have a big impact
  • Fitness reimbursement
  • Learning & development funds
