Senior Dimensional Engineer

Role Summary
Responsible for the development and monitoring dimensional strategies, tolerance schemes and quality plans of various automotive systems and /or others. Plans and develops GD&T layouts, strategic dimensional slip plan documents, tolerance stack ups, VSA and quality plans that allows to balance design, manufacturing processes and engineering dimensional objectives insuring the manufacturability and quality objectives for the system and components can be achieved.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead dimensional engineering programs from start to completion.
- Identify and develop quality objective targets on key product sections and monitor quality goals within the dimensional objective documents.
- Develop the strategic slip plane and dimensional strategy documents.
- Perform tolerance analysis (2D stack-up studies) on new and existing designs and processes.
- Perform 3D (VSA model) tolerance analysis on designs and processes.
- Maintain dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) to component and assembly drawings.
- Datum coordination throughout assembly sequences in accordance with Cosma Engineering World Class Manufacturing requirements.
- Review dimensional control capabilities of tools and dies, processes, and assembly sequences.
- Assist in the fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to the dimensional plan and customer provided quality objectives.
- Support the development, evaluation, and approval of build sequence sheets and dimensional control plans for a system or component.
- Support the development of part and assembly datums, tolerances, and measurement plans.
- Research and analyze data such as VSA studies, specifications, and component tooling tolerances to determine feasibility of design or application.
- Perform variation reduction and dimensional sensitivity studies.
- Perform comparison studies of measured data versus objectives and GD&T specifications.
- Provide input to engineering teams, manufacturing divisions, business development, and OEMs regarding dimensional management related topics.
- Participate in continuous improvement and VA/VE activity.
- Assist in applying design for assembly (DFA), design for manufacturing (DFM), and geometric dimensioning and tolerance (GD&T) to components and systems and identify potential concerns.
- Support product design and engineering teams by providing input on problem resolution of new and existing product designs and creating design summaries and/or tech review documents.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

Key Qualifications/Requirements
Education - Required:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field of study; OR Journeyman or Apprenticeship with equivalent combination of education or experience
Education - Preferred:
Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field of study
Years of Experience:
Minimum three to five (3-5) years of related experience required

Other Skills/Experience -Required:
- Exposure to manufacturing processes covering sheet metal forming and assembly
- Experience in developing body and chassis components
- Understanding of assembly fixture, gauges, and tooling design and processes to support CPMP related topics
Other Skills/Experience -Preferred:
- ASME Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Professional Certification (Technologist or Senior Level)
