KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Job Summary - (Role Summary)

The Administrator IT Database Administration will be part of a database engineering team accountable for developing implementation standards to drive operational excellence. This person is tasked with solving difficult and moderately complex problems. The candidate will be expected to function in an advisory capacity. The Sr Administrator IT Database Administration is a senior individual contributor who may contribute to the development of other junior level professionals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities - (Key Activities)

  • Primarily develop standards for and support Cloud implementations of Google Cloud SQL(PostgreSQL) AWS Aurora (MySQL) and other open-source offerings
  • Contributes to the planning, architecture, design, implementation, standards creation, maintenance, and support of databases on a variety of platforms within a complex Hybrid Cloud systems environment
  • Performs advanced data analysis, database planning and database coding to develop database environments that meet customer needs.
  • Responsible for enhancements to standards documentation and change management policies while promoting code deployment.
  • Lead and/or participate in Proof-of-Concept efforts for new database technologies.
  • Provides escalation operational support for database systems and participates in on-call rotation
  • Responsible for building complex and efficient database environments to maximize productivity and improve performance to include reorganization of database structures as needed, procedures automation at regular intervals, use of tools to reorganize or de-fragment database table spaces, tables, and indexes.
  • Manages production testing and QA database environments. This includes providing data load programming, creating necessary utility functions for each data base, system testing and developing an implementation plan.
  • Responsible for designing replication and DR solutions and participate in DR activities.
  • Provide RCA for critical issues in a timely manner.
  • Assists development teams in producing efficient SQL and query tuning.



What we need from you

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education -

Bachelor's in a relevant field of work or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.

Experience -

Minimum of 7+ years of progressive work-related experience with demonstrated proficiency in multiple disciplines, technologies, or processes related to the position.

Technical Skills and Knowledge -

  • Advanced knowledge of Cloud implementations of MySQL and PostgreSQL databases including physical design, SQL tuning, cluster builds, replication, backup, and recovery.
  • Experience with Cloud monitoring tools such as AWS Cloudwatch/Performance Insights and Google Stackdriver/Query Insights
  • Advanced level in troubleshooting database performance and outage issues.
  • Advanced knowledge of database design and related architecture.
  • Advanced knowledge of the techniques and methodologies of data management systems including relational, network and hierarchical systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of database concepts/design/deployment, recovery techniques, performance monitoring, tuning and capacity management.
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL, including programming and ways to optimize SQL code.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of structured analysis and technical design techniques.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to learn other database technologies including non-relational database offerings.
  • Advanced project management experience in organizing, planning, and executing large-scale projects from conception through implementation.

  • AWS RDS MySQL or Aurora (MySQL)
  • AWS DynamoDB
  • Automation tooling expertise - Terraform, Chef, Ansible, Jenkins, Git, etc.
