Reliability Engineers are hybrid systems and software engineers who support daily developer operations, manage application observability, and own incident response processes at Doctor on Demand. As part of the Platform Services team, the Reliability team works closely with the broader engineering organization to maximize insight into application performance, minimize mean time to incident resolution, and improve software delivery velocity through modern software engineering methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Recommend and implement deployment processes that improve reliability and velocity.
  • Improve observability, monitoring, and alerting to enable faster mean time to incident resolution
  • Analyze all incidents to find and implement improvements to all aspects of reliability
  • Write code and implement services to improve the reliability of our application
  • Be part of an on-call rotation that monitors/maintains availability of our application
  • Troubleshoot, mitigate, investigate, and resolve production issues and their underlying causes
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability and proven track record of supporting production systems, and are able to effectively coordinate incident response
  • Expert understanding of Linux systems and Docker containers
  • Practical experience with AWS
  • Ability to prioritize and work on tasks independently with a strong sense of ownership and drive
  • Excellent written communication, interpersonal communication, and documentation skills
  • Advanced knowledge of Python / Django and Go
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code and GitOps

Preferences

  • A combination of practical experience and education equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Healthcare Information Management, or similar field of study.
  • Production experience with AWS.
  • Production experience with building and scaling Python web applications.
  • Production experience with application metrics tools such as Prometheus.
  • Production with logging systems such as Splunk.
  • Production experience with SQL databases such as PostgreSQL.
  • Production experience with messaging or streaming systems such as RabbitMQ, Kafka, or Celery.
  • Proficiency working with algorithms, data structures and production troubleshooting.
  • Expertise in problem solving and analyzing global scale distributed systems.
  • Experience in Healthcare / HIPAA compliant environment
