Today, we are exploring and delivering ways to make smarter vehicles and our transportation system more efficient to improve people's lives by helping them move more freely, safely, and enjoyably. For example, we are changing how our products are made by creating high-quality vehicles in an environmentally and socially responsible way, including the use sustainable materials. Since 2000, we have used 12 industry and world-first plant-based materials in our production vehicles. What you will be able to do:

At Ford, we are focused on creating next-generation mobility solutions that are completely customer-centric. That is why this position is focused on soliciting customer functionality needs and modeling/simulating user interaction scenarios and system behaviors. You will then deliver results, develop variant sets of solutions/interfaces, conduct trade-studies, analyze failure modes and emergent behaviors, and handle flow-down of requirements to the many parts of the system. Success involves both technical acuity and the ability to function across a diverse project team. You will need to be a confident, independent problem solver who can work well with ambiguity within a constantly evolving research environment. You will:

  • Increase a model-based approach (descriptive/architectural SysML models in combination with executable/analysis models in Simulink, etc.) to architecting, defining/analyzing sophisticated systems involving a mix of hardware/controls for increasingly electrified, sensor-equipped, and externally connected vehicles.
  • Develop and maintain a set of core systems engineering work products (use cases, strategy concepts, requirements, robustness artifacts, verification methods/plans/results).
  • Facilitate the design of interfaces between base vehicle/feature subsystems.
  • Handle the cascade of interfaces with subsystem teams.
  • Develop physically/empirically based models/simulations of systems, customer features and whole vehicle environment scenarios, using them to conduct design option trade-off studies.
  • Develop and automate test plans for subsystem building blocks.
  • Perform design verification tests on virtualized vehicle ecosystems/prototype vehicles/constituent systems, analyzing results to provide design recommendations.
  • Support Ford-tailored specialty processes (requirements development, functional safety/ISO26262, SOTIF, fault tree analysis, FMEAs, Cyber Security).
  • Present designs, challenges, implementation details and results with excellent communication skills.
  • Conduct ongoing peer/landmark reviews and virtual/real-vehicle demonstrations.

The minimum requirements we seek:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or Computer Science or closely related field of study or a combination of education and equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience with requirements definition, decomposition, systems/controls design, trade/feasibility studies and/or design verification/validation
  • 1+ years of experience with SysML, UML, UAF, DoDAF and/or MoDAF
  • 1+ years of experience with MATLAB, Simulink and/or Stateflow

Our preferred requirements:

  • Master's Degree or PhD in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or Systems Engineering or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in controls and/or systems engineering
  • 3+ years of experience in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) development
  • Experience with model-based systems architecting languages/tools (SysML, MagicDraw) and associated methods.
  • Proven experience with virtual simulation environments (CarSim, CarMaker) for vehicle feature verification/validation.
  • Experience with hands on testing/problem solving in simulation, hardware in the loop systems and prototype vehicles.
  • Significant experience utilizing models to develop/verify mixed hardware and embedded software systems.
  • Skilled at working in large team environments and collaborating with technical specialists.

What you will receive in return:

As part of the Ford family, you'll enjoy excellent compensation and a comprehensive benefits package that includes generous PTO, retirement, savings and stock investment plans, incentive compensation and much more. You'll also experience exciting opportunities for professional and personal growth and recognition. If you have what it takes to help us redefine the future of mobility, we'd love to have you join us.
