Overview:

The backend Quality Assurance Analyst works within our Digital Promotions Team to help ensure the highest quality, stability and performance in our digital coupons platform.

The focus of this position is primarily with back-end interfaces (APIs and file processes), but occasional verification of internal b2b web tools may occur.

Medium level position - open to a range of experience levels, mentorship will be available from senior members of our QA team

Job description

  • Participate actively in Scrum meetings:
    • Contribute to design, providing feedback on API behavior and usability
    • Estimate testing effort required.
    • Helps clarify acceptance criteria.
  • Writes own test cases and review with more senior QA members
  • Collaborates closely with software engineers during the testing phase. Provides quick feedback on identified defects and writes detailed tickets guiding developers.
  • Review and update documentation to match any changed behaviors.
  • Use pull requests to determine the extent of automated testing and inform where more testing is needed.



Must Haves

  • Must be comfortable with the Linux command line and using command-line tools
  • Understanding of relational database design and ability to write complex SQL queries
  • Experience testing RESTful APIs (JSON, XML)
  • Experience with different m2m and user-facing authentication methods
  • Experience with complex workflows, asynchronous tasks, and file-processing
  • Excellent communication and ability to prioritize
  • Familiarity with Open Source technologies



Nice to have

  • Familiarity with best practices for API design and behavior.
  • Familiarity with the OpenApi standard of documentation
  • Agile environment
  • JIRA
  • Use of API clients such as PostMan



Pluses:

  • Experience with GitHub
  • Ability to script API calls (for example in Python notebooks) or read through code (for example to review a pull request to see the extent of code changes, or to look through in-code functional tests and identify gaps)


Would consider:

  • Would consider making this a QA engineering position for a candidate with significant coding experience as well as the ability to run load tests (familiar with Python, AWS, locust, new Relic)
