Who You Are
As a Project Engineer with our Research Operations Team, you will support multi-faceted research projects surrounding battery systems & electrification with emphasis on the continuous development of the battery cycler laboratory. This work includes the installation & maintenance of new equipment, calibration of cycler channels & thermal chambers, development of test fixtures and integration of new testing & data acquisition systems. You will use your attention to detail, experimental, and analytical abilities to carry out project assignments and provide detailed documentation of progress & lessons learned back to research staff.
What You Do

• Follow all corporate safety standards and site safety policies, e.g. g-Risk, g-Comply, PTP, Lockout, chemical management, etc.
• Work closely with multi-disciplined teams to understand functional requirements and implement appropriate technical solutions for various research projects
• Participate in installation of various battery cycler equipment and thermal chambers
• Ensure functional readiness of battery cycler lab systems through preventive maintenance, pre-task diagnostics/checklist, task instruction sheet, database maintenance, etc.
• Develop designs for new fixtures or test set-ups depending on battery size/type
• Operate battery cyclers and write appropriate test procedures
• Establish course of action, timelines and breakthroughs for projects/assignments
• Meet the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers
• Deal well with ambiguity and coping with change efficiently
• Work both independently and closely with others
• Consult with the manager and principal investigator as required by assignments
• Quickly find common ground with peers and resolve problems for the good of the project
• Excellent written & oral communication skills to discuss complex material before, during and after projects are initiated
• Stay abreast of new technologies and competitive products
• Actively identify new areas for learning and take advantage of learning opportunities with a focus on continuous improvement

Additional Description
What You Need

• Technical degree or equivalent experience
• Ability to work in an export controlled environment
• Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation for electrical systems
• Demonstrated analytical ability to problem resolve in an environment where problems are unusual and difficult
• Knowledge of battery testing & cyclers of various types (ie: Maccor, Arbin, LAND, etc.)
• Hands on experience working around batteries (ie: 12V, Coin Cell, Cylindrical Cell, Pouch Cell, etc.)
• Experience with thermal chambers
• Ability to travel periodically for training and on-site technology transfer

What Would Be Even Better

• B.S. in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering field
• 1-3+ years of relevant work/plant experience
• Hands-on experience with battery cycler operation
• Machine shop experience
• DFSS Certification
• High voltage training
