This is your chance to work prominently on a software development team fitted hand-in-glove with business teams to build new and improved products and services for customers of Apex Clearing's suite of financial back-office solutions.
The Opportunity:
The Principal Software Engineer (Cash) will provide technical leadership and inspiration for a team at the heart of Apex Clearing's high-volume, high-availability trade clearing suite (we partner with some of the industry's hottest next-generation stock trading products). You will be at the center of rapidly scaling services that will test your limits as a backend engineer. We've come a long way in replacing first-generation services with a scalable, pipelined microservice architecture, but the journey is just beginning. What's ahead? Smarter, more scalable and recoverable messaging and faster, simpler operational databases. Derived data streams feeding a machine learning platform that will let us outperform the competition in evaluating risk (and opportunity). Realtime data consolidation using pub-sub techniques that obsolete legacy data stores and the complex, unmaintainable queries that go with them.

• Deliver results - Collaborate with those around you to produce lean, pragmatic solutions in a predictable and transparent way. Using modern tools and techniques with lightweight agile process, you will join a team of engineers writing, reviewing and shipping high-impact solutions for Apex customers.
• Become an expert - You will be a strong backend engineer, but also learn the industry and earn your Ph.D. in Apex products, tools, and software stack.

The skills you'll need to succeed:

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering
• Experience mentoring and coaching other developers
• Deep expertise in at least one modern language (Java, C#, C++)
• Ability to learn new things (languages, tools, frameworks) very quickly
• Expertise working with databases (SQL and/or noSQL)
• Proficient using version control systems
• Proficient with software test and automation tools
• Readiness to travel occasionally
• Proficient in Java preferred
• Experience with noSQL databases preferred
• Proficient in Git and automated build/deploy environments preferred
• Experience with service-oriented architectures preferred
• Familiarity with functional programming preferred
• Financial services background preferred
