What You'll Do Here:

Working in a highly collaborative, multi-functional Agile environment, this engineering role is responsible for building, maintaining and supporting our critical Cassandra environments. Working with the development teams to implement standards around data modeling and access patterns and with the operations team to supervise and support healthy Cassandra rings, this role will take direction from senior level members of the team on upcoming projects, including the implementation of Cassandra at Cengage.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Build, monitor, support & maintain company-critical data on MongoDB and DSE Cassandra rings: Work includes and is not limited to: ensuring the operational well-being of the clusters, engage in active troubleshooting in the event a ring experiences
    issues, support the creation and operational viability of new Mongodb and DSE clusters as needed.
  • Collaborate with development resources to recommend improvements and or best approaches for interfacing applications with the Mongo and Cassandra clusters, data
    modeling recommendations and new application updates/deployments.
  • Continuously learn and grow with industry-leading practices, processes, and technologies
  • Work with the AWS cloud on Linux based systems
  • Learn and champion operational standards such as automated installs as well as no downtime upgrades and deployments
  • Work with operations frameworks such as Dynatrace, Mongodb Atlas/Cloud Manager, DSE OpsCenter, Splunk, OpsGenie and AWS monitoring for the goal of 24/7 uptime



Skills/knowledge/experience

  • 2+ years working with DSE Cassandra in an enterprise setting, including AWS cloud.
  • Experience using source code control systems, such as Git, Stash, Subversion, or CVS and build/integration tools like Maven and Jenkins.
  • Comfortable with think-ahead releases to guarantee 24/7 uptime.
  • Understanding of the full Software Development Life Cycle (SLDC).
  • Preferred - bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and recent, relevant work experience
