Job Details

The Salesforce GLUE Team have multiple openings for software engineers interested in tooling and enhancing the process by which we uplift our codebase. If you're intrigued with both enhancing the developer experience helping to keep our product secure, robust, compliant, etc., please read on.

The Challenge and the Team

As Salesforce grows to $50B, both organically and through acquisitions, standardization across our product suite is more critical than ever. Increasingly, what our customers demand isn't just the next incremental feature in a product vertical, but the horizontal requirements across everything they use. These needs can emerge as industry and regulatory standards, systemic gaps highlighted by production incidents, or universal product requirements. Standardization across a broad surface area is hard. Service-wide uplifts and continuous governance are complex, time-consuming efforts for both business stakeholders and affected engineering teams.

The Governance Lifecycle & Uplift Enablement (GLUE) Team "standardizes how we standardize". We turn code uplift and governance patterns to a common toolset that facilitates fast and consistent best practices. We support the global growth of Salesforce, and power the most innovative product improvements with the least disruptive developer experience.

About You

  • You are passionate about improving not just our product, but the process by which we build it. You have a strong interest in analyzing code and teasing out patterns therein, from source through build and run-time, and seeing that the quality of our product improves through your efforts.
  • You're not only comfortable with, but can envision, and relish having a broader, indirect impact on our product. Your work enables vigilance over security, quality, robustness, compliance, and more, all while improving the developers' experience. Your decisions are amplified downstream through code vigilance and then through Salesforce's actual product.
  • You're adept at distinguishing operational patterns, thinking generically, and driving extensible, scalable solutions to address them. You have a high-scale and leverage mindset.
  • You're eager to learn and facilitate a wide range of business processes and personas.
  • You're highly accomplished in, or have keen interest in integration with multiple development platforms, including IDEs, code repositories, CI/CD systems, static analyzers, and more.
  • You enjoy rapid experimentation and prototyping - you regularly take calculated risks and are not afraid to fail fast.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Own (design, build, test, deploy) solutions to enhance software analysis and software-artifact monitoring & governance.
  • Design and build extensible APIs for processing software-artifact metadata across multiple code repos and languages.
  • Collaborate with multiple teams to integrate with development lifecycle and governance platforms.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years experience engineering enterprise-class software or engineering/deployment/operations pipelines (4+ for LMTS)
  • Expert in Java
  • 2+ years experience with Python or similar
  • Extensive experience developing automation integrated across the development cycle, including IDEs, software repositories, build/test environments, packaging, etc.
  • Extensive experience implementing or integrating with static code analysis, rules engines, and event processing

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years experience authoring and packaging APEX applications
  • Experience implementing or maintaining portions of the Kythe ecosystem or similar software-artifact metadata solutions.
