Forward-Deployed Software Engineer

The Red Hat Consulting team is looking for a forward-deployed Software Engineer to join us in Raleigh, NC or remotely to focus on our various containerized application initiatives. In this role, you will help us develop Pelorus and other solutions related to measurement of organizational improvement related to the adoption of Red Hat OpenShift. The solution will take advantage of multiple technologies like Kubernetes, OpenShift, Prometheus, Grafana, Python, and Go. You'll participate in the upstream OpenShift, Konveyor, and Kubernetes communities, as well as downstream efforts working with Red Hat engineering teams during planning, design, and implementation.
What you will do
- Participate in Pelorus, Kubernetes, and OpenShift communities by developing, testing, and documenting new features
- Assist field teams delivering professional services related to the software, including troubleshooting and feature development related to the integration of the software in customer environments
- Contribute and lead feature implementations in a collaborative manner accounting for open source community participation, like creating design proposals and pull requests while paying attention to community feedback
- Participate in pull request reviews helping to share knowledge with the team and the greater community
- Educate the team on new features through sprint reviews and small team presentations, recording small video demonstrations as appropriate and sharing publicly
- Work with quality engineering teams to ensure projects are tested correctly
- Publicize the work the team is doing through blogs, project mailing list, and conference talks
What you will bring
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a technology-related degree program
- Familiarity with Python, Golang, or a proficiency in another language and willingness to learn
- Familiarity with Git
- Passion for investigation and curiosity to dig into problems
- Ability to work within a fast-paced and team-oriented environment
- Experience with Kubernetes or containerization is a big plus
- Experience with Kubernetes operators and Helm charts a big plus
- Experience extending Kubernetes via developing new controllers is a big plus
- Experience participating in open source communities is a plus
