The Engineering and Product Development team at Industrial Scientific is inviting applications for an Engineering Manager to lead Product Certifications and Compliance for the Industrial Scientific portfolio of hardware products and services. Industrial Scientific is an industry leader in the field of industrial safety with a range of award-winning Internet of Things / Connected products and recurring revenue business models. The Engineering Manager, Product Certifications and Compliance leads the realization and maintenance of product certifications that are compliant to all relevant regulations in areas of mechanical, electrical, safety, communications, etc. This person is a hands-on leader who works with cross-functional teams to understand business needs, establish certification practices, develop and enhance process and tools, engage internal and external stakeholders, and guide development and release.

Our Engineering Manager, Product Safety and Compliance is a highly skilled professional leads the global certificaiton of large-scale wirelessly connected engineering projects. This person will lead a team of engineers supporting engineering projects and ensuring that the required certifications are completed successfully in a required time frame while maintaining the highest quality standards. This person could also serve as the Technical Lead on specific engineering projects.

Managers are held to the highest standards of performance in all areas, both technical and professional, they serve as a role model to other engineers and foster collaboration throughout the entire company.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for leading all certification activities required by engineering. This position requires a highly competent, results-oriented, self-directed professional focused on high-performing & highly reliable safety-critical applications. This person will work closely with the New Product Development teams to deliver certified wireless designs to market meeting agreed to specifications within quality, time and budget constraints to drive successful outcomes for customers and stakeholders. This position is expected to collaborate with various cross-functional groups to fully assure a properly designed product from concept to production.

The duties include but are not limited to:

  • Manage and ensure the global certification of the product portfolio
  • Establishing roadmap for certification projects in coordination with engineering and product management leaders
  • Establish and report on key certification metrics
  • Coordinate work with external agencies: coordinate required certification tasks, prepare and configure test samples, and ensure proper documentation & set up parameters
  • Maintain an active external network to stay informed on requirements and best practices
  • Establish product platform and engineering best practices that enable faster and lower cost realization of certifications for global and regional use
  • Collaborative participation in cross-functional Agile product development teams
  • Manage process transformation, lead process discovery workshops, and reports on process performance
  • Follow, enforce, and mature engineering processes and standards
  • Mentor others & where applicable, take the technical leadership role



Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, or other related field, from an accredited university or equivalent degree/experience
  • 10+ years of global certification experience
  • 5+ years of experience in the certification of Wireless Communications Industry
  • Prior experience certifying products to UL, CSA, ATEX, MSHA, CE and IEC specifications
  • Experience with FCC, CE, PTCRB, GCT, CTIA, carrier approvals and country certifications
  • Demonstrated knowledge in worldwide regulations and certification schemes for cellular, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and NFC
  • Working knowledge of ISO 17025
  • Experience leading and coordinating complex projects and product development efforts involving large cross-functional teams
  • Experience leading engineering development and/or program management across full product development lifecycle



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from an accredited university or equivalent degree/experience in a related engineering discipline
  • 10+ years of wireless global certification experience
  • Demonstrated experience with intrinsic safety design
  • Experience with Agile methodologies
  • Demonstrated experience with ISO 17025
