As a Plasma Etch Process Development Engineer in the Dry Etch Research and Development Group at Micron Technology, Inc., you will design and optimize plasma etch processes for Micron's groundbreaking Memory products. As a process development engineer, you will take ideas from conception through process development then implementation in our production facilities. Primary areas of responsibility include plasma dry etch process characterization, optimization, design, troubleshooting, process transfer and fundamental research. Working on Micron's pioneering memory products, you will develop plasma dry etch processes that can mitigate incoming Extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV) induced defects, innovate the film stacks for EUV pattern transfer, and optimize the processes for various EUV resist materials.
Dry Etch Process Development Engineers interact with groups such as process integration, electrical failure analysis, yield enhancement, manufacturing, and equipment vendors to ensure robust etch processes that meet the detailed physical and electrical requirements for Micron products. This position requires the ability to clearly communicate complicated process results and explore different tool parameter spaces.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Identifying and testing new etch processes for sub-50nm features of dielectric, conductor, and silicon trench applications.
  • Developing Critical Dimension (CD) tuning processes to reduce line edge roughness and control average CDs and CD uniformity.
  • Working with vendors to improve existing tool performance and reliability.
  • Comparing etch performance between different tools.
  • Trouble shooting defects or other issues associated with a given etching process or portion of the processing line.

Successful candidates must have:

  • An understanding of tool hardware impact on process performance.
  • An understanding of process chemistry for dielectric, silicon and metal etch.
  • Understanding CD tuning processes to control uniformity, provide desirable vertical/lateral etch rate ratios, reduce photoresist sidewall roughness, and minimize profile micro-loading between isolated features.
  • statistical analysis and process optimization.
  • Experience with Statistical Process Controls (SPC).
  • Previous plasma dry etch experience of Extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV) related applications is helpful.
