The Role

Circulo is seeking a DevOps leader who is hands-on and excited by the prospect of growing a team of dedicated and talented DevOps engineers while providing technical leadership and strategic direction for the team. The Director of DevOps will work with the CTO and the DevOps team to set goals, manage projects, and shape the direction of the team’s work, as well as help to bring that work to completion. The Director of DevOps will help build, improve, and support our development teams in the areas of performance, reliability, management, and cost, through automation, tools, performance and cost analysis, tech evaluation, and implementation, and the support and maintenance of our DevOps software stacks and cloud technologies.

Who we are looking for in DevOps:

  • You should have a strong background in management and modern cloud infrastructure (preferably AWS/IaC), with a thorough understanding of industry best practices. 
  • You have operational experience at scale - designing and operating highly available, scalable, and fault-tolerant systems using best-of-breed technologies like containers, APIs, Data Platform, etc.
  • You have a strong understanding of software development, debugging, optimization, and/or troubleshooting, and ideally you have experience developing and maintaining an active codebase in any language, preferably collaboratively (Java, Node, Python, Go, Terraform)You have a thorough understanding of CI/CD and related concepts and tooling, and you should be able to help implement automated tests, automated deployments, monitoring, and operational tools along with true observability.
  • You have experience with a service mesh, load balancing, and proxy technologies.
  • You have experience with 24/7 site monitoring and the ability to own uptime & performance SLA’s.
  • It would be great if you have experience running AI/ML operations through CI/CD pipeline.
  • You will have a high level of comfort participating in challenging technical discussions and advocating for best practices in a fast-paced environment.
  • You have eight (8)+ years of experience working in DevOps/SRE-focused roles.
  • You have a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, training, or work experience.

  • You have an exceptional ability for maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • It would be great if you have experience conducting employee training.
  • You have four (4)+ years of experience in a senior DevOps management role.

What you will do

  • You will apply engineering leadership and deep knowledge of infrastructure and software development at scale to lead the operation, adoption, and evolution of these services.
  • You will grow and lead DevOps engineering teams that focus on all aspects of CI/CD infrastructure, automation, and operational metrics to ensure the highest productivity for our Cloud engineering.
  • You will lead by example, mentor the team of Managers & IC and establish credibility through quality technical execution, and pitch in with hands-on help and code as needed to keep things running smoothly.
  • With your team, you will plan and execute complex projects with minimal oversight, and periodically report on the status of projects, resolving roadblocks independently when feasible.
  • You will collaborate closely with product development teams to design the quality, monitoring, security, and high-availability of the services applications integrate with.
  • You will create measurable goals for the DevOps teams to execute against.
  • You will develop and meet SLAs for DevOps services, which will include advanced troubleshooting and monitoring of systems.
  • You will own the strategy and development of the incident response management and service capacity management through core engineering execution.
  • You will provide advisory support and guidance on engagements and drive the business objective, continuous improvements, and best practices within and across teams.
  • You will participate in product discussions, influence the technical roadmap and take ownership and responsibility for new projects to make them happen.
  • You will champion best practices and standards within the team, and in the broader engineering organization
  • You will facilitate thorough, clear, concise documentation of the above
  • You will influence senior leaders/engineers across teams on DevOps engineering strategy, and you will stay aware of changes across the company to anticipate obstacles.
  • You will hire new engineers and technical managers.
  • You will mentor engineers and engineering managers, and manage engineer career development.
