Design Release Engineer - AV Radars Math Owner
Description
The Role
We are looking for a high-performing experienced Design Release Engineer-Math Owner who is responsible for definition of requirements, execution of design, analysis, development, testing and management of engineering projects for Autonomous Vehicle Components where creativity, initiative and independent judgment are involved. Exercises technical direction over other engineers or engineering support personnel and may have work direction responsibilities over a small group with specific engineering objectives. Consults with supervisor as required.
Responsibilities
- DRE for Radars including all elements of hardware and software
- Capable of organizing and driving design for manufacturing initiatives
- Develops component technical specifications as well as statement of requirements, subsystem technical specifications, and other technical documents as required
- Develop, communicate and maintain: Development Criteria, Inherent Criteria and Typical Sections (Package envelopes, interfaces, sections and features)
- Populate Pre-VPI Master Parts List in GPDS with New, Modified, or carryover parts: select an existing math/part on which to base your modification, and release new part numbers
- Implement Sourcing Strategy with GPSC (eg: Supplier Footprint, Bid list, timing, program usage, ED&D vs, Build to Print, bundling/leveraging volume, and others) and comply with BFO/Commodity Manager Strategy. Support Sourcing process actively with Buyer, including Tech Reviews, Pre-RFQ, negotiations, Sourcing Table, etc.
- Develop Statement of Requirements for new products, including all appropriate appendices
- Assure DCS is aligned with BOM Strategy and Program BOM picks
- Prepare, conduct and attend Peer Reviews to ensure BOM strategies are followed
- Create and maintain Component Level Math Data, in line with Best Practices and BOM Strategies within the PDT Timing Plan.
- Resolve design issues from program design review or physical build (ex; Peer Reviews, Virtual Builds, Design Staff Review, etc.). Feedback into BFO Strategy lessons learned
- Leads formal design, peer, and quality reviews
- Leads resolution of technical issues
- Leads product development team meetings
- Leads/manages supplier resident engineers
- Supports sourcing activities
- Utilize Internal/external benchmarking data to define program requirements
- Primary GM engineering interface with the component suppliers
- Knowledge of hardware and software interfaces
- Insure all vehicle program imperatives (cost, timing, investment, and quality) are met
- Generates technical solutions for current, new and major programs
- Provides technical leadership for advanced technology development
- Performs complex design analysis
- Develops engineering designs (including subsystems)
- Implements engineering changes
- Initiates documents to provide engineering authority and to maintain math data
- Works with engineering functions, suppliers, plant personnel and others to implement cost reduction, methods and product improvements, and to support build programs
- Plans and implements test and/or development programs
- Releases parts and subsystems for production
- Assist and knowledgeable of the Cost Targets with Cost Engineer, including piece cost, tooling, and Engineering Design and Development .
- Communicates information to and from internal and external customer organizations
- Coordinates and consults with departments outside engineering, such as manufacturing
- Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products
- Travels as required
Additional Description
Requirements
- BSE, BS in Mechanical, BS in Industrial Engineering, BS in Electrical Engineering
- 5+ years of professional work experience
- Experience with project/program management
- Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
- High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
- High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others
- Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area

- Software, Controls, and wiring experience
- Design/Development of Safety Critical Systems/Components
- Prior experience with radars
- Prior experience in manufacturing or industrial engineering with DFA/DFS
- Prior experience negotiating between parties
- Prior commercial experience a plus for negotiations with supply base
- Prior experience in electrical/electronic component design/release
- Prior experience with electronics/circuit design
- Knowledge of computer software as it pertains to engineering
