Electric Power Division (EPD) has an opening for a Design Engineer in the Retail Engineering Product group located in Seguin, TX. In this role, you will be taking ownership of 40 kW - 750 kW gensets fueled by diesel and natural gas for North Americas region. You will be providing shop support and conducting maintenance activities to solve complex technical problems, to maintain regular production to meet customer delivery dates. Expect to be hands on with the product and prepared to be mentored by multiple engineers. You will work with people across multiple organizations expanding your professional contacts and develop an understanding of the diversity of Caterpillar and its systems.
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide engineering shop support of generator sets 40 kW - 750 kW manufactured in Seguin, TX.


  • Introduce ICAs & PCAs to protect committed ship dates
  • Resolve Seguin engineering quality issues and support quality initiatives.
  • Update designs of current products, components, and systems to meet customer requirements and the capabilities of process partners.
  • Work with regulatory experts to maintain certification requirements such as IBC, CSA, and UL.
  • Engage operations and supply chain to optimize designs for cost, quality, and assembly


  • Support generator sets throughout the product life cycle.
  • Provide technical guidance regarding test and analysis.
  • Maintain close communications with Assemblers and Test Engineers during product buildup and testing.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in an accredited Mechanical Engineering and 1-2 year of design experience


  • Or Associates / Technical degree in Engineering and 4 years of design experience


Top Candidates will also have:

  • Genset product knowledge
  • Understanding of IBC, UL, CSA, NFPA, and NEC requirements
  • Troubleshooting experience


  • Emphasis on initiative and self-starting tasks
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience using Creo, and TeamCenter
  • Caterpillar design experience
